Stopped for a sandwich and a drink here after visiting Jervaulx Abbey, as this is the only eatery in Middleham that 's open on a Monday. On reflection I wish we 'd gone on to Leyburn instead. My pork and apple sandwich had clearly just emerged from a fridge, as the shop bought bread was as cold as the jarred apple sauce and 2mm thick layer of butter centre. The pork had a couple of crispy bits, which was nice, but this was outweighed by the massive chunks of fat and sinew, which were considerably less nice. The sandwiches were brought out without cutlery or napkins, and no indication of where these could be found. The bowl of chips we ordered were brought out by a surly middle aged man in a...

We stayed in Middleham for a family Easter break and visited the Richard iii pub for dinner on the first evening. It 's a traditional pub, no frills and caters for local workers and walkers really. The prices aren 't cheap (steak pie chips £15) and we expected good quality pub grub, unfortunately the food was a real let down. Greasy tasting burger, very average chilli and a 'not great ' pizza (cheap meat on the meat-feast) Lots of local workers still in their dirty clothes drinking right next to our table and swearing quite a lot in loud conversation, not exactly what you want during a £60 family meal. OK for a drink after a muddy dog walk but that 's all.

this is a nice cozy pub with a menu of traditional pub-fayre. husband had ham, egg and chips, I had masham sausages with chewing gum, gravy and heap. the sausages were nice and the food was nice and hot. Recently when we sat in the opposite, we sat outside and had a coffee, the coffee was very good. toilets are upstairs. lots of parking spaces on the square and around the village.

We used to travel to this pub every few months for a great big sandwich. Unfortunately we went there last weekend 15th Sept and the sandwich is not as it used to be. No baguette and just two thin pieces of bread. Really disappointed. Drinks and bar vibes are nice, but they need to address the food Réservez une table maintenant

Stayed for many overnight stays in the dales with my wife,. I found the room ok, cleanliness ok as well. Overall you guessed it, just ok. One thing as a drawback was the price of a room for a night. Quite expensive at 140 double 180 twin inc brekkie. 7/10 for me. Rooms: 4 Service: 4 Location: 4

Booked for steak night for two people... when we arrived (on time) they only had one steak left! Annoying. Had a good meal nevertheless and the rhubarb crumble is fantastic. Service: 4 Location: 5
