I love Festival of Food time, where I revisit all the restaurants I went to last year, because FOF have made it so affordable! River Café is one of our favourite restaurants in Adelaide and has never disappointed. The view is spectacular as always. Service a little slow on this occasion, through no fault of the restaurant, as I believe some sickies were in play, making this difficult for the remaining staff, I so get that! They did a fabulous job for the amount of waiters they did have! We are always excited with the FOF menus and ordered promptly. Our entrees arrived fairly quickly and were quite nice, small critique on the crostini, it was too hard and just fell to pieces when you tried to eat it, the rest was nice. When our mains arrived, my eyes roved the table and all the dishes looked promising. The lamb dish was enjoyed, the gnocci not so much, as this really needed some sauce to tie it all together and the gnocci was a little stodgy. I had the pumpkin tortellini which was undercooked, where the pasta was pressed together, was still hard. The pumpkin filling was sweet and the goat curd a bit lost, married with the amaretti butter crumb really made this a super sweet dish which I did not enjoy and couldn’t finish, I believe this dish would be much better without the amaretti and maybe a more savoury crumb instead. The rest of the dishes were just okay. We ordered some desserts and they were lovely. We came here last year with a large group on the FOF and uber foodie mates and myself were totally blown away with their meals. Sad faces all around this year, it wasn’t up to the same standard, such a shame. Thanks team, we will return and give the FOF and River Cafe another go!!

Another Thursday, another girls lunch. As we hadn't visited for some time, we picked the River Cafe where complimentary parking is always appreciated. The bright, sunny dining room was beautiful on the clear wintry day we chose. We were shown to a table by the window and settled in by a cheerful waitperson. Our tasting plate of entrees presented interesting contrasting textures - a tiny teacup of mushroom soup (nice intense flavours, but I found this oversalted for my palate); an arancini ball with a nicely crisp coating, though the filling didn't quite work for me; and - my favourite - preserved fig, cheese and a sliver of salty prosciutto balanced on very crisp toast. Our party chose mains of lamb rump, linguine with crab and gnocchi. All beautifully presented and very yummy. My lamb was a more than decent-sized serving with a tender slightly pink interior. However, the edges were slightly dry and flavourless. In contrast to the mushroom soup entree, the lamb was rather bland overall - and that's to my palate that favours under salted food. Could it be that my taste buds were overwhelmed by the salty mushroom soup?I didn't have room to order dessert though the offer of tiramisu was very, very tempting. We had the petit fours and - oh my - they were such morsels of decadent chocolatey-caffeinated deliciousness!!Very good on the whole. We'll be back.

We had our anniversary dinner here recently and it proved to be a very good choice. For starters we had the calamari and oysters Kilpatrick, and the duck and goat targine for the main course. All were delicious.Service was very friendly and helpful with regard to my wife's gluten intolerance. My only reservation was that the service was a little too quick if anything, a gap between the courses would have been preferable.Prices were about par for the course for this style of dining, helped somewhat by use of the Entertainment Card :-)

Our Adelaide based friends took us to River Cafe for lunch during our visit. We had a great table with wonderful views back up the river. Food was fabulous. Recommend a visit.
