We called the restaurant to know how late they will remain open. They told us till 10 p.m. We reached there at 8.20 p.m. on Saturday the 25th of July, 2015.The restaurant was about one-third full. There was a birthday party going on the back end. And there was a group of about 7 - 8 in a front table..The hostess was not very happy to see us. Gave us seats in a dark table in the middle. We wanted to see the menu. The lady said to us to hurry up as the kitchen was going to close at 9 p.m. We decided to go with the buffet dinner as no kitchen preparation will be involved.At around 8.55 p.m. the hostess/manager told us to take the food we need as she was removing the food from the buffet table a...
Had a take-out from here.The portions were very generous and we could not eat all we ordered, made an excellent breakfast!The food is good in the main. Had the Vegetarian Platter which was very tasty a good start. The pompadom's, however, were not so good, through they were better the morning after.Had vegetable Korma, Goat Curry (Medium) and Chicken Tandori. All well cooked with plenty of meat. The two curry dishes were a bit hotter than we would expect based on UK experience, so you may want to avoid the really hot stuff.Saffron rice was excellent but the Nan bread was a real let down, based upon what we are used to.Overall good food but let down by a couple of exceptions.
My self and my sons visited this restaurant on Monday 20th August.The room is very large, and there was only one couple eating - we should have interpreted this as a sign to avoid.The decor is gloomy and old, a mismatch of second hand furnishings.The service was pushy and uncaringWe had mango lassi - it was like a warm milkshake The food bears no resemblence to Indian cuisine, probably because the owners are not Indian We ate a tiny bit of our starters and left all of our main courses and walked outVery overpriced. The worst dining experience I can recall in years.Do not eat here!
Went here for lunch on a weekday and there was plenty of seating and did not fill up by the time we left. There was a good selection of veggie and meat dishes as well as plenty of naan available and some desserts. We found the food to be a bit bland and mild, and lacking in salt, but there are sauces available at the end of the buffet. Service was friendly and they were quick to clear our plates and fill our water. Lunch buffet was $18 per person which seemed a bit steep, but we did eat about 3 plates per person.

Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, Royal India is a fantastic option for fans of Punjabi and Mughalai Indian cuisine. The restaurant is roomy and well-decorated, with top-notch service. Whether you opt for the lunch buffet or the a la carte menu, the food is consistently delicious. Royal India also offers a separate section for group reservations and large gatherings. Prices are fair considering the prime downtown location.
The dinner buffet was one of the best meals I have ever eaten in my life. Don't listen to the haters, this place is beautiful, the people are beautiful and friendly, and it was not expensive at all considering the quality and variety they offer. The dessert is amazing.All the meats were perfectly cooked and I was just like wow. So happy and satisfied.This restaurant deserves a better rating.
I stayed at the Regency Suites and Royal India delivered to the hotel. I ordered the Butter Chicken with rice and naan. It arrived unbelievably quick, 10 min. Food was good although way too much. It's a full round silver container of each item. It was just myself, and there was enough for at least 2. Would order from there again next time I'm in town.
Since our office is located next to this restaurant, we often visit for lunch. The buffet offers a wide variety of Indian dishes and the desserts are typically Indian as well. The decor is pleasant, the staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. It's a great spot for large groups and also a good option if you're looking for a quick lunch.

Quiet atmosphere, and pleasant staff. The food was plentiful, and full of Indian flavour. The Chsi tea was also very tasty. A good place to go when in downtown Calgary. Affordable prices, and a good selection of food for everyone's taste buds!
