My husband and I visited the Royal Oak during our honeymoon in the area. The pub had a cozy atmosphere and the staff were friendly. We were excited to try the pie of the day and spoke with the owner/landlord about ordering the last 2 pies. Our drinks, including a Big Sur IPA that my husband enjoyed, were served promptly. Despite the pub not being very busy, we waited over an hour for our food with no updates from the staff. When we inquired about our order, we were told that it had not been sent to the kitchen. We decided to leave, feeling disappointed, and ended up back at our hotel eating chips at 10pm. It was not the romantic evening we had hoped for. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
Went to Royal Oak for Sunday lunch. Generous portions and good value for money. The proprietors were very helpful, charming and attentive without being overbearing. The pub is also well presented, clean and appears like a proper pub, unpretentious in nature. A very enjoyable experience and, if we visit the area again, we will definitely be returning.
