The Royal Oak at Eydon is a very characterful village pub. Unfortunately it was totally unprepared for a group of 8 people who had booked well in advance. The waitress did not seem to know the items on the menu either. There was a very limited mains menu, most of the party only had two choices. Although the staff did try to compensate for the lack of availability, their kindness did not outweigh the negatives. A few of us had to go with starter plus a side dish. The starter of mushrooms on toast with a side of chunky chips was delicious but the beetroot and goats cheese was very simple and the side salad disappointing. The burger options had no salad garnish and were nothing special. They di...

Looked on line at the menu, which displayed a good amount of choices. Booked a table and attended at 8.00pm on a Saturday. Apart from two ladies in one of the side rooms the pub was completely empty. The menu had been reduced to FOUR starters, FOUR mains and THREE desserts. Being late in the evening, although disappointed with the lack of choices, we decided to make the most of the situation and ordered the Chicken meal. we waited longer than normal and eventually the meal turned up. The first piece of chicken was a bit tough but edible, after two pieces I tried a second piece but my knife wouldn't cut through it. The third piece was a darker colour, it was watery but didn't cut like chicken...

My husband and I were looking for a country pub after an afternoon out at Canons Ashby. We came across the Royal Oak in the pretty village of Eydon. It's a lovely pub with lots of little rooms decorated in a contemporary style, plus several outside seating areas. The owners were very welcoming and service excellent. We had a Sunday roast and the food was excellent delicious and well cooked. My husband said it was the best meal he had had in a long time! There were quite a few locals in there which is a good measure of it's popularity. Even though its a fair way from where we live, we would return again. Would definitely recommend.

Hadn’t visited this pub for a very long time. Was lovely to return, beautiful inside a fab courtyard outside. The owners were extremely friendly chatty. They couldn’t do enough for us. Lunch was amazing, food so good couldn’t fault it. So, very sad to hear the owners are moving on the pub will be closing from this weekend. Such a loss to the village. We would definitely have returned if able to. We wish the family all the best for their next venture. Réservez une table maintenant

We visited NT Canons Ashby with friends and booked here for Sunday lunch having checked reviews. We were welcomed and a lovely young lady from Rumania and seated promptly at a table in a cosy snug area. Orders placed for Sunday lunch beef at £18, pork and chicken ordered £17.50 along with 3 pints of Timothy Taylor, one of Amstel and half of Land Lord. Food was hot and tasty. Total bill for 4 of us £92.65. Will definitely return.

Stopped for lunch with friends whilst in the area. Menu was pretty limited and several items not available. Club sandwich was very disappointing was more like a BLT. Chicken burger was ok but chicken was very chewy. Interior was tired and in need of some TLC. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Based on the limited offering and the quality of the food, we wouldn’t go back.

Thai pub is simply spectacular. The landlady is lovely and welcoming, the surroundings are traditional and well kept and the food is incredible. However, the yuppy villagers are disrespectful, pretentious and rude. They need to support this wonderful pub otherwise they will lose it. I will continue to supper it as much as I can.

Very rude staff. What a shame this used to be a friendly welcoming pub for just drinks or food. Whoever is managing this now is rude and has no manners. What a.shame.
