We have really enjoyed Rudy's in the past and will be back again, but today's visit was a bit off. It was chilly inside, at 1pm, and this is always a problem for my wife. The server said they had adjusted the temp, and it seemed to help for a bit but not for long. Not a of people there at the time, but the server was a bit slow in taking our orders and the follow up and then the bill. Very nice and personable woman, so don't know if there were other things slowing her down that we couldn't see. Food was just OK. Seafood melt for appitizer was just too cheesy, on a hard crusted bread that was hard to cut. Not sure why there was a cheese type sauce for dipping or on top of it. I had the burger...
If you are in the Salem, OR area and are craving a steak, I can't imagine that you would do better than dining at Rudy's Steakhouse. The decor is definitely a classic steakhouse vibe very comfortable and welcoming. The food was delicious, the service attentive, but not cloying (Mackenzie was great she didn't hover, but was always there when needed). Apps and dinner were very filling, so no dessert upon which to comment. But I know I'll be back in town at some point, and I'll be sure to have Rudy's on the short list for dining.
I'm pretty sure the waitress forgot to put our order in. We were seated by 345, ordered around 4 and by 5 our food still hadn't come out, making us request for it to be boxed to go because we were going to be late for our next reservation event. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, we didn't see our waitress after we got our drinks and had to request it to go from some other waitress that happened to be by us. Very disappointed with this visit.
Would have been a much better review had the sommelier done a better job of keeping the wine list up to date. It's not a good sign when your waitress/waiter spends more than 30 minutes trying in vain to look for 2 different bottles of wine in the cellar and can't find them because they were actually sold out even though both bottles were on the list. Finally the 3rd choice was the charm, but still...
We went to Rudy's for my wife's birthday. I wasn't starving, so I elected to have a smaller steak, the small top sirloin. My wife usually has the salmon, but went with the stuffed Portobello mushroom instead. Both were very good. I had the clam chowder as an appetizer. It was excellent. I think Rudy's has the best clam chowder in Salem. The service was excellent.
Went to Rudys for a birthday dinner celebration. My husband and I both had filet minion. It was cooked to perfection! Accompanying sides were salad, bread, asparagus, potato and/or roasted Brussels sprouts. Service was very good, wait was minimal. My only complaint is that we booked the reservation as a birthday celebration and there was no recognition of it.?
I typically have a 5 stars across the board experience when I eat here. Tonight we spent $300 dollars and are steaks were cooked poorly. Our server was practically a ghost, I literally had to complain after 35 minutes to get her to come back and take our food order. I hope this was just an off night for what normally is one of the best establishments in Salem.
Service was excellent and has a nice setting. Parked about a block away, not sure if there was closer parking. Has an extensive bourbon list, and had several excellent old fashioneds. The wife's filler medallions should have been medium but came out rare, whereas my filler came out a perfect medium rare. Our server, whose name I forget did an excellent job.
