Ok full disclosure required. I’m fifty-one, my mum is eighty-two, and my granny was one hundred when she died. We have all been coming here for yonks: much longer than Trip Adviser has been around. The ice cream is fabulous although the recent fascination...with “soft scoop” has introduced a dash of non-milk fats to the recipe which in my opinion compromises the mouthfeel. I discussed this very issue at length with Prof Arun Kilara at Penn State University in the USA when I was making a documentary about Ben Jerry’s in the 1990s. Anyhow I digress. Heard so much about the Ice Cream thought we'd try the Cafe too. Didn't have to book this so that was a bonus. There was 4, 2 adults 2 kids. We had 2 burgers, Mac n cheese and a kids pizza. Also a side of...onion rings which were a big hit with us all. An totally cost £51. Burgers were decent, disappointed with the chip portion though my daughter had even less chips and we got her an adult portion too. Kids pizza was okay for a 10 year old but they would have been hungry if it wasn't for the side of onion rings would recommend something with the meal to bulk it out. I have fond memories of visiting S. Luca as a young boy fifty years ago. My parents would bring me from the other side of Edinburgh to Musselburgh just for an ice cream cone. Fast forward to the present day, and I now bring my mother from her care home to enjoy ice cream at S. Luca. We always get cones to take away. On our recent visit earlier this week, on one of the hottest days of the year, my mum had a vanilla cone which she enjoyed. My wife tried the ruby chocolate and sweet potato flavors, with mixed reviews. I opted for coconut and fudgy wudgy toffee, which was a delicious combination. S. Luca always provides the best ice cream I've ever tasted, and it's always a treat to visit.
I recently stopped by for a quick bite to eat at this restaurant, which was my first visit in over a year due to the pandemic. I was pleasantly surprised by the renovations that had taken place during my absence. The café area had been completely transformed and now exuded a fresh, vibrant energy. The industrial aesthetic with tiled walls and glass windows gave the space a unique charm. The food was as delicious as ever and the usual staff were as friendly and attentive as always. After I had heard really great critikens, I decided to make my way away during my trip. I was very disappointed, not only most glasses on my table dirty, but the drinks were very warm. eating is in order, but tastes. good, but that's where it stops. I probably wouldn't return.
