After a long day of travel, we opted to dine in the upstairs restaurant at our very charming hotel. We were so happy we did! The service was friendly and well-paced and the food was spectacular! My husband ordered the boar, mostly to try something...new, and LOVED it. It was served with spaetzel, Brussel sprouts and red cabbage. I opted for the safer, although new for me, pikeperch which was unbelievable. The presentation was nothing less than any 5-star restaurant we’ve been to and just as tasty. Would definitely send our friends here, for sure!
Just visited for dinner. Very friendly lady at the restaurant. Its a sister propery of hechst. Hotel Santis provided us the charger adapters needed for our phones. Since hechst reception closes down fast and is not friendly too. Would definitely opt for Santis in place of hechst next time. It has a beautiful location, right in the middle of town square, yet peaceful, and offers wonderful views,and has a super friendly, warm and helpful staff, so much unlike Hechst.
A very traditional and historic spot that is perfect to try some local specialties. Luckily the portions are not huge but the amount of tasty Appenzeller cheese will easily fill you up. The local boiled sausage with macaroni cheese and fried onions is a full...plate of Appenzellness. The dessert wasn’t nearly as memorable as the accompanying fresh whipped cream.
I didn't stay at the hotel, but I went to Landsgmendstobe for lunch. Everything was perfect, the food was very tasty and the service was very nice. The only negative point is that the tables are very close to the entrance. I would remove a table from the row here. At lunch you don't want to share every conversation with the people sitting next to you.

We were late, but need something to drink and eat. There were sandwich on the menu that are more a german butterbrot than an english sandwich. But htey were richly covered with cheese or ham or whatever - great things.The waitress (definitely not from Appenzell) was very nice and joked with us although it was late in the nite!Next time again.
This Hotel has it all Top Location right in the main Area of Appenzell yet still quiet at night for a good sleep. Plus the service and friendliness was outstanding. So was the Food we had there every day Breakfast and Dinner it was so...good and very high quality could not ask for anything better.
We had dinner at Santis Romantik and it was disappointing. The food was average and overpriced. The portions were small. The service was efficient but too pushy.
Couldn't recommend enough! Delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, very friendly and capable staff in a beautifully decorated traditional Appenzell House.
