After having enough of Sagar's declining food quality, I just had to write this review. Full disclaimer, as a person who has known the Sagar family and been there from the start of their food businesses, I believe I`m in a unique position to comment on their food. Also, we live near Sagar with a short delivery time and always consume the food when delivered, so our reviews are as when eating freshly prepared items. Overall terrible quality, especially the meat dishes. The color was so off-putting I did not try it. Glad I skipped as people in my party got food poisoning upset stomach for the rest of the day. On the positive end, the soup was good and so was the fried rice. But not worth risking getting ill. It was a GrubHub order so can't speak for service. I remember when this place opened up decades ago, we were all so excited to finally get Bangladeshi Chinese cuisine in NYC.
I went to restaurant about 1 or 2 times a year as a family tradition since I was a child. They have since then remarkably started up charging certain menu items like the chicken lollipop. However, the quality of the food started to diminish, they started rushing undercooking the chicken lollipops, one of my favorite appetizers. I ordered extra to go when I got home, to my surprise they gave me fried chicken instead of chicken lollipops instead. They scammed me.
I went there to buy Iftar and ended up purchasing 7 boxes. I also bought 10 pieces of fried chicken. Most of the food was acceptable, but the fried chicken was stale, as if it had been leftover from the previous day and just re-fried. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enjoyable and ended up being thrown out. I received burnt chow mein that was completely different from what I expected. The photo and information on the DoorDash app indicated Chinese-style noodles, but I was served regular noodles instead. I made my order based on that misleading information and ended up wasting my money.
We had a great lunch dining here. Food came out fast and fresh. The folks were pleasant and patience with us given the number of people in our party. Highly recommended. Next time we are in NYC, we will be back.
The Thai soup was quite light, but the shrimp ball was cold, and the noodles were a complete disaster. Overall, I would rate it ****.
