5/20/22 Was looking for a place to dine at a bar due to the unusual humid weather. Sansei had always been on my radar but it always looked closed from the outside because of the frosted glass. Glad I checked out the website and knocked on the door. Thus review is specially geared towards DK, the owner. I hear he's been at this location for a little while trying to overcome the labor boondoggle that's challenging everyone and everywhere. Your first impression and setting the tone of the evening is who you trust to put at the door. Kaitlyn and Mia did a great job handling two ringing lines, taking a family in, and acknowledging me. Throughout the night, I noticed them working well as a team and helping to turn tables. Really great to see teamwork like that with a younger team. It can be hard to find. Sitting at the bar, David did a quick and efficient job of greeting, explaining specials, suggesting, and checking back. I appreciated his recommendations and candor. Of course, the food is tasty, and reasonable, especially during happy hour. Place is spacious, high ceiling, clean and pleasant. One of the few places with a/c in the area btw. In these challenging times, you can see little shortcuts in the menu but it is still of good value. Moreover, it's nice to see an overall staff working well together and keeping the restaurant running well. Everyone was busy and pleasant. I sincerely hope they prevail. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. If they are busy, be patient. Everyone is short staffed but you'll enjoy your time. A good sign is you'll see a lot of locals dining as well. I've been here for almost 10 years. Overall, the quality of the food is still good, but I? ve has a star for the limited menu and the new location?s ambience. The menu before the movement and Kovid was a 4-5 page book of options that everyone has nutrition restrictions and preferences that was amazing for different groups. It was our way to sushi place when we have guests because those who did not like seafood had reasonable options. The tempura (shrimp and veggie) was amazing. You're not sad anymore. Luckily, they still have the Mango Krabbe handpiece that is excellent. Now your options for non-seafood-related meals are two appetizers or $70-80 steaks. The old location felt like an experience and that you were?t in a strip ball. Now it feels like a strip-ball experience. Overall, the food is still good, but do not expect the same experience as before the movement. I would give 3 1/2 stars, but I give them the benefit of the 4th.
Good things: food was good, while serving was small for him price and waitress who served us was also good. Bad things: We came at 5 pm when it was open without reservation. While there are many empty tables, we sat at the corner, separated from all others. When we finished, another Asian family sat behind us, which is even more remote. Meet here with friends living in Maui on a Sunday night when the dishes are half price. You have to face 5 to sit down. Prices are good until I think 5:30.
