As a visiting Brit with very little Spanish, I know I should be ashamed of my language skills, but is this an excuse for poor service? The wine was fine, the food was well cooked but I did not appreciate having the dishes thrown down and being left not know if I was expected to eat with my fingers or if they had forgotten to bring cutlery. Particularly as they didn’t bring napkins, even when I went inside myself to ask for them. At the second time of asking a different waiter brought two paper napkins and three sachets of wet wipes. We had lunch here on a Monday in January, primarily as it was one of the very few restaurants open. Despite being busy the service was friendly and efficient. We had clams (OK), garlic prawns (good) and fried squid rings (very good) washed down by a bottle of indifferent white wine (which is disappointing in Spain which I think has some of the best white wine in the world to accompany seafood). There are probably better choices in town, but they were all closed on a Monday in January, so we were happy to eat here.
We had generous portions and tasty food. We opted for the set menus on our two visits and the staff were helpful, especially as their English isn't great and my Spanish is pretty appalling. Second visit was after waiting 30 minutes at another restaurant called Romejiro having ordered water when we sat down and the waiter then ignoring us. Avoid Romajiro and go to bar Santa Maria.
Hemos cenado esta noche en este bar, todo lo que hemos pedido estaba muy bueno, revueltos y pescadito. El personal ha sido muy amable en todo momento, pero en especial Nico, que nos ha atendido estupendamente, rápido y muy profesional. Da gusto encontrarse a gente joven competente y amable. Gracias

Food terrible and service even worse. Large table having lunch the same time and think we got the left overs! As for the service we were totally ignored, couldn’t wait to leave. Will never return.
