A group of 6 of us happened upon this excellent hotel and restaurant last week (May 2016). We were tired, at the end of a long day's motorcycle riding and we were also on the last day of a 9 day tour. We turned into Doneztebe and thought that this rather unpromising looking hotel “would do”. How wrong we were. It turned out to be the best place by far that we stayed on our 9 day trip through France and Spain! The family run hotel had clean and simple rooms, perfectly good and great value, but it's when we got to having a beer and a meal that the place really took off. Our group of six had a terrific midday meal at the Santamaria where there was a huge choice for the menu of the day. Tasty first dishes included cardo con jamon (thistle with ham) and mixed salad. Excellent main dishes were trout (navarra style with ham) and cordero al chilindron (lamb in tomato sauce). Dessert included flan and canutillos (small cones filled with cream); all desserts were made by the owner's 90 something mother. A charming place with excellent service at a reasonable price!

Excellent and very friendly staff and owner. Food portions very big and tasty and good selection on the menu. Also recommended a lovely local wine.

La comida a la altura del trato, excelente. No pudimos elegir mejor sitio para nuestra última noche en Baztan. Nos vemos el año que viene.
