This visit was a one-time experience for us, and WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT COMING BACK! My friend and I were really in the mood for baked catfish and had initially planned to dine at Thien An Bo 7 Mon in Rosemead. Unfortunately, they weren 't open at the time, so we decided to give a new place, Sau Can Tho, a try. I had brought my own drink into the restaurant but was also prepared to order something else. We placed an order for the $80 baked catfish. The only issue we encountered was with our server, Mike. He seemed unhappy and pointed out that I already had a drink with me. Stopped by one evening and ordered a family style meal. First I had the seafood, meat and vegetable hot pot. I was surprised at that generous amount of seafood in it. There was a lot of vegetables as well. It tasted pretty good. My favorite dish though was the pork in caramelized sauce. This was super flavorful and great to eat with rice. The lemongrass and chili chicken was ok. It did not have a lot of spice. The one dish I did not like was the shrimp with caramelized tamarind sauce. Love this place! They have a really extensive menu with exotic meats that i haven't seen other places. My favorite is the sweet and sour catfish soup. It isn't easy to find this soup at most VIetnamese restaurants. They are well known for their whole baked catfish where you make your own spring rolls. It's yummy but a little messy and more work than i usually want for dinner! haha but you will most likely see it on every table. My family and I love coming here for their baked catfish combos as well as their Canh Chua combos. Their tamarind shrimp is also very flavorful and delicious. Their pricing is on the more pricey side but definitely worth the penny. The service is always very attentive but can be slow when there is a crowd. For the most part, the restaurant is very clean. The parking lot is shared amongst the other restaurants/shops within the plaza but there is plenty!
Total gem in rosemead. The soup and baked catfish are an amazing combo. We usually get the dinner for four combo in the menu. It serves our family of four perfectly with a bit extra to take home. Ignored to be seated, and once FINALLY seated, ignored at the table. We got up and left, so I have no idea how good the food might be. It was fairly full, but not so busy that I feel we were unreasonable in getting up and leaving. We won't be back. Golden Delight right across the street is a far better experience!
They need to fix the paint on the walls it would go a long way to making the space not feel like it's temporarily under construction. But the service was kind and neighborly. Food was delicious although the $88 baked catfish is a bit ridiculous in price.Parking: They have a lot.
