"Many Thai restuarants have opened in Vancouver since Sawadsee opened years ago, but none compare. Always full, so reservations are a must. Recommend Tom Yum Papaya Salad, chicken swimming rama and pad green beans."

Went for dinner with friends, reservations previously made as recommended. The local had the typical appearance of a Thai restaurant, not particularly elegant & quite crowded. The menu is large. Started with a pre-ordered appetizer - purple yam lotus dumplings that were outstanding: sweetness, spice & texture, topped by roasted garlic . I have never tasted anything like this dish, and Thai is my favorite food! An impecable, unique & beautiful dish! The panang curry plate, garlic beef and coconut based curry platter were also excellent! All were well proportioned & quite savory. I would probably recommend a larger portion of rice, but that is a minor issue. Without a doubt, a place to return over & over again! Busy restaurant, so reservations a strong recommendation. Only reason for only 4 stars was because of a confusion regarding our reservation & preordered items, but food wise it would be 5 stars!

Deeply disappointed. The moment I walked in I knew it was not authentic when the staff spoke Chinese. The pad Kaprao prao Nua tasted like Chinese beef in oyster sauce with onions and green papers, with just some basil leaves and chilli added to make it Thai. The candy provided with the bill was Chinese... One glance around the room and all I saw was Chinese style dishes. So if you want different tasting Chinese food and never had Thai food, you will like it here.

We are east coast visitors and this was close by for our last meal before the flight home. I agree that there is a Chinese flair but down deep the flavors were Thai. We had the won ton and the flower dumplings, but reasonable and worth a second visit. We shared the whole deep fried grouper in triple sauce. Flavors worked, but as sometimes happens the fish was overlooked. All in all a very good local Thai establishment, but no longer the best in town.

Every time we're craving Thai my boyfriend and I go to Sawasdee. I love them because they will veganize anything on the menu for me, unlike most Thai restaurants. The staff is always super friendly and the food always comes out fast even when they're busy.
