We sat outside here in the chilly Spring sunshine and enjoyed a great lunch literally in the shadow of the fabulous Bamberger Dom. We are an Anglo German family, and as this was our first time in Germany for two years (thanks for that, COVID), we...were craving traditional Germanic food. We had all intended to use this lunch as an opportunity to indulge in our first schnitzels of our road trip, until we opened our menus and found mention of 'Brizza ' something we 'd never previously encountered. A Brizza is a variation on a pizza theme, made with bretzel dough and topped with a choice of Germanic toppings. A bit of research suggests that it 's a dish that was reputedly developed by a chef in Aschaffenburg under lockdown as a way of alleviating boredom, and has since become more widely popular. I chose the Brizza Gemuesegarten, a vegetarian option topped with Emmentaler cheese, vegetables (including peppers), onions and rocket. It was utterly scrumptious, and risking heresy almost preferable to the best pizzas I 've had (but then I 'm also a great fan of flammkuchen). My only slight quibble is that it would have been even better if the brizza had been garnished with mini pretzels, which featured on the menu photo but not on the brizza I was served as they would have added a little more crunchy texture. But that 's a minor issue and maybe gilding the lily. The schnitzels were good and generously proportioned (with lots of sauce on the jaegerschnitzel) and were served with hefty portions of chips and side salad. The beer was delicious and icy cold. What more could ask for in a lunch? Service was quick and efficient. This restaurant is dog friendly, and as soon as we arrived, the waiter immediately brought our hound a bowl of water, which is a small but very welcome gesture that 's common in German restaurants (and which British ones could learn from). She happily established herself under the table, ready to clean up any scraps that might fall her way slim pickings for Millie, I 'm afraid, as we absolutely cleaned our plates. One small criticism there were no details provided on guest Wifi, and when we asked the otherwise obliging waiter for help, he was fairly disinterested. The password he eventually gave us didn 't work, and we gave up. For a restaurant in the heart of a town as photogenic as Bamberg, I can 't help feeling that this is a mistake, and may deter younger tourists. All in all, a very pleasant lunch stop that we 'd happily recommend.
