We were told when we checked into the Schloss Blumenthal Hotel that the restaurant closed at 10. At around 7:30 pm, my husband and daughter walked to the restaurant and asked to look at the menu. Unlike the other restaurants in which we ate on the Romantic Road, there were no menus in English and the bartender seemed insulted at the request.. She reluctantly handed them German menus, which for the most part we could read. After all, Schnitzel is schnitzel and bratwurst is bratwurst. At 8:35 we arrived in the restaurant and seated ourselves. In the dining room there was one party finishing and a young man cleared their table periodically. He glance our way about three times but nobody made an attempt to wait on us. Finally at 8:55 we asked, as best we could, if we may see a menu. A waitress came and communicated that the kitchen closed at 9, so no we could not. She might as well have said, "No soup for you!" The busboy said to her with disdain, "And they are Americans". So in the land of wurst, schnitzel, dumplings and spaetzle, on this night, we ended up having to eat fresh at a Subway!
