Schloss Kapfenstein

We were staying in the hotel so we ate two dinners and one lunch. All the dishes are designed to show off regional specialities and produce with an emphasis on healthy eatingThe entrance to the hotel and restaurant is close to the kitchen servery so one is immediately immersed in interesting smells of food. On the first night we had a more informal meal in the dining room at the end of the entrance hall. All the food was excellent and in particular the Styrian speciality of a fried chicken salad. The next day we ate a light lunch in the Stube, another attractively presented and delicious meal, as we were saving ourselves for the Gourmet menu with wine pairings that evening.We started with smoked trout and salmon trout, followed by a choice of cauliflower soup with vegetable maki or a dish of pumpkin noodle dumplings with pesto and vegetables, then roasted char or leg of lamb. A sorbet followed, most of us passed on the cheese course as we were saving ourselves for plum dumplings with stewed plums and vanilla ice cream. Everything was excellent and our attentive sommelier recommended good choices for each course.On the previous two meals I had found that the chairs were a little too high for my short legs, so when we arrived we discovered a search was underway for something I could put my feet on, when the waiter suggested I try a bench seat in the stube, which proved to be just right.

sehr schönen Gastgarten in verschiedenen Ebenen bzw. ein uriger Speisereim im schönen SchlossService sehr bemüht und größtenteils Leute aus der Kapfenstein oder nahen UmgebungSpeisekarte mit mehr gängigen Menüs und A la Card -Speisen.Wir haben uns diesmal für Hirschbraten A la Card entschieden und es war wie immer begleitet von einem Gläschen Olivin (JG 2005, wird hier im Restaurant sogar 1/8 l weise ausgeschenkt) köstlichDas Beste haben wir uns für den Schluss aufgehoben: Es waren die Kapfensteiner Kürbiskernknödel. Eine besondere Kreation vom Küchenchef Martin Winkler-Hermaden. Beim Zahlen dann noch die freundlichen Worte und Verabschiedung der Hausherrin Elisabeth Winkler-Hermaden. Es war ein schönes Erlebnis!

Following the suggestion of a colleague coming from that area, we had lunch in a late summer day. The weather was perfekt, the view from our table amazing, and the food very well prepared (most of us had some home-made vegetarian ravioli). Details were taken care of, own produced juices were very good and the dessert mix (to try most of the options they offer) excellent. Highly recommended with reasonable prices and very good service.

Die einladende Terrasse erlaubt den Blick über die idyllische Landschaft.Der Blick auf die servierten Teller ist ebenso erfreulich. Die Küche versteht ihr Handwerk, ebenso wie das Service. Hier lässt man sich gern verwöhnen

haven't been in the castle but just on top to enjoy a great view and clean air. Next time we'll go back to go in.
