After reading/hearing all of the hype for this place, I was severely disappointed with the food from here. To preface, I love good food, I love cooking. I’ve visited a lot of fine-dining restaurants in my lifetime and though they’re expensive, I find the food is usually so good it’s worth it. The food I had from here was no where near worth the price, and this was the most disappointed I’ve ever been with food from a nicer restaurant.Fair warning: the portions are relatively small, and for the portion size the price is *very* steep. Settler is the best restaurant on the North Shore. We had an incredible experience. It was absolutely gorgeous inside, and the lighting was perfect. I knew the service was going to be top notch when our server brought us tiny jars of lavender lemonade to cleanse our palates when we first sat down! The wine list was top notch, and our sever knew everything about the wines and where they came from. They weren’t just typical wines we could tell they had been picked by an expert. I went here while on vacation and the experience was beyond amazing. The manager Chuck reached out to me personally when I asked on an online forum for upscale restaurant recommendations and I was treated so warmly from that moment on. My servers (one employee was training another at the time) were both incredibly helpful and so knowledgeable about the food, offering recommendations and insights beyond the usual Yeah the chicken 's good here you get at most places. This was truly a 5-star experience!! Our waitress welcomed us with some delicious lavender lemonade and she was very friendly. The food was all amazing!! The homemade sourdough was extremely delicious with the olive oil mixture, the ricotta dip, and the baba ghanouj dip. My wife is vegetarian so the falafel was a perfect app for her, while I had the shrimp app that was through the roof soo good. Lastly the entrees were super good as well!! This is definitely one of our new favorite places to eat at in town.Vegetarian options: The menu had plenty of vegetarian options for the dips and apps. Only one option for an entree, but it was very tasty.
Always perfect. This is the service you want when you’re spending money like this! You truly feel like you’re dining in someone’s home and being hosted. I’ve also never had servers be so kind and attentive to my child that I had to bring at the last minute. The food is so so amazing and worth it, (so are the cocktails! , but it’s the “whole package” thing for me that makes me come back!!Dietary restrictions: So accommodating, my GF friend was impressed by their pasta!
This is our second time at the Settler, and the food and drinks were excellent as expected after our last visit. We started with nice ricotta and muhamara dips, where the latter was perfectly balanced in spice just enough heat to make it warming while not overpowering the other flavors. My main was a very delicious halibut on a bed of corn, and we shared the nice basque cheesecake as dessert. Very happy we went back and will go again!
Honestly, this is THE best restaurant in the greater Salem area. FULL STOP.The service is so good on all levels. Professional, informed, responsive and ridiculously friendly.Food: Farm to Table at its very best (all courses).Atmosphere: small but really inviting.If you DON’t like great farm to table food, great wine and spectacular service, you should stay away. During a recent trip to Cape Ann/north shore Massachusetts we decided to stop for dinner at Settler, our reservation was an hour later than when we arrived. The bartender graciously seated us at the bar rather than make us wait. Everything we ordered was delicious, I have been raving about Settler to everyone I know living nearby to this very special restaurant in Salem, MA
