Celebrated my birthday at SHU Sushi House Unico, and here's the scoop. We reserved a table on OpenTable, looking forward to a memorable celebration. However, there were a few hiccups. Not only did they cancel my OpenTable reservation, but there was also no mention or offer of a complimentary dessert for my birthday, despite my boyfriend informing the waiter about the occasion. I took photos of everything except the spicy tuna handrolls we ordered. We got Toro, Hamachi, Sake, Hotate, Hirame, Hirame fin, Monkfish, Kinmedai, Butterfish, Ikura and quail egg and Uni. Ventured out to the Beverly Glen area to try something new and glad I did. Shu Sushi House is a winner. It was a very local crowd and everyone, diners and servers, seemed to know everyone. The menu is very large and we had a hard time deciding because so many things sounded good. We tried a couple sushi rolls, the rainbow roll being the winner. The fish was so fresh and the crab filling super delicious. The other standout was the Shu tacos appetizer, which consisted of spicy tuna, crab and shrimp housed in crispy little shells. Comfortable and welcoming environment with a unique and diverse menu. I should have taken pictures of what we ate so I would at least remember something more than the eggplant dish (which was killer). But we were with friends so I wasn 't paying too close attention to reviews. With that said, the food was solid across the board. Not one bad thing. And we ate a variety of foods and sushi. A little pricey, but what isn 't in that area. The service was excellent and staff is super nice. I gave it a 4 but seriously if I could it would have e been a 3.75 because it 's not quite there in my humble opinion. Go there and prove me wrong. It won 't disappoint.

Food Amazing sushi. It's so refreshing to have a proper sushi restaurant. The fish was fresh. That evening I had a salmon flight/tasting and each one was like butter. Blue crab hand roll was also better and fresher than most. Service server was great with steering me in the right direction. Every recommendation was appreciated. We had no reservations but they were able to accommodate us. Ambiance Great intimate setting with a modern and traditional sushi restaurant of that makes any sense. Not loud and just a nice place to have a meal.
My favorite caviar truffle pasta hands down. We hold the record ordering 5 bowls of the off menu caviar truffle pasta. Love there sushi as well, also gotta have there deep friend ice cream. Great service from friendly staff. Nice ambiance, always busy get a reservation before you go.
I love shu, it's my hidden gem. I've been coming here with my family for a few years and the quality never ever disappoints. It is exceptional sushi. The best I've ever had in a non-omakase setting. A little cramped inside, but well worth it.
Great neighborhood sushi spot! Love walking in during the week and sitting at the bar for a quick bite. They tend to get busy on weekends so best to snag a resy early. Make sure you get their secret menu Truffle Pasta!!

The host keep u waiting for hours and won't seat you , means after waiting for more than couple hours for ur dinner , you go home hungry ! it's a very low level of hospitality
5 for food, 4 for service and 4 for ambience. Creative dishes. Love the roasted ginkgo and the truffle pasta. Must have.
