A beautiful, historic inn in Smithville, New Jersey, it is beautifully decorated with a nice view out the back windows. Very pleasant setting for a nice dinner. It was our 58th Wedding Anniversary, so we were looking forward to a pleasant, quiet, delicious meal. I asked our Waiter, Santiago, if I could get asparagus with the Blackened Tuna, instead of Farro and Stir Fried Vegetables with Shrimp. He said yes, no problem. This is supposed to be an area landmark restaurant, somewhere you go for a nice night out for a date or family birthday dinner. I would spend my money elsewhere. There was zero seasoning or flavoring in any of the dishes. The scallops with gouda grits sounded good on the menu, and other people have posted pics that looked appetizing, but it was extremely disappointing. The grits weren 't bad (nothing special, mind you), but the scallops and wilted spinach had no flavor at all. They were cooked properly but with not even a pinch of salt or pepper. My dad’s 75 birthday! Pre Covid we always went to the Crab Trap and took our chances on the wait. This year our size has increased with the grands having SO’s, and we had some time constraints. We had our wedding here last year. Beautiful atmosphere. The staff did an amazing job setting everything up the bartenders were amazing. Very grateful for a few things we received as well. Big downside though is we didn't get to eat our meals during the reception. I had a few bites got up from our sweet heart table our food was gone. Went up to make another plate, but the buffet was already cleaned up. We did not get to take food home. We were gifted a dessert table we asked the head waitress if she can pack a few things up for us and that seemed like it was a problem.We will definitely be back because we love the inn but this really made me upset that we spent a good amount for our wedding... They have great reviews but I was disappointed. I had the French onion soup which looked way better than it tasted and the filet medallions. The demi glaze on the medallions was more of a gravy and the medallions were chewy and a bit fatty, neither should be the case. It was supposed to come with mashed Yukon gold potatoes but the potatoes tasted as though they had a soft cheese added and I didn't care for the tang. The service was fine and the atmosphere was nice but a bit boring. I tried it but I'm not interested in going back
The food was excellent and the service was great. The Cowboy Burger that I had was cooked the way I asked for it. Very tasty. Shared a slice of carrot cake with the wife. It was moist and not overly sweet like some tend to be. Lunch is a little less expensive than the dinner menu. Dinner menu looked very appealing, with prices ranging from in the $20 to $50 range. I plan on coming back for dinner in the near future.
