We stayed in St Max for a week and thanks to Tripadvisor we went to this little beauty of a restaurant. I advise to book during season as there are only a few tables and this is pretty popular! We were greeted by the hostess who then became our waitress, only to find out that she was the owner along with her husband in, who ran the kitchen. We sat outside on a great summers evening and had some lovely organic, local rose wine! 2 bottles in fact! Very good and also compliments the food they serve very well. The menu isn't very extravagant but then it doesn't need to be for what they offer - a form of French tagine, the 'Brick' and couscous dishes. We asked our host what was good to eat and allowed her to choose our dishes. Between the 3 of us we had a beef tagine (massive!), the regular 'brick' (egg, cheese and potato) and some veggie couscous. The portions are massive and you will feel well fed by the time you leave. I had to waddle out the door after our Sofra feast! The garden is lovely and quiet - three tortoises call it home, the service was great and I would recommend this little gem if you fancy a great meal out in St Max!Closed on Mondays and Sundays to allow the awesome couple some R&R!

We ate at this restaurant during our summer vacation in 2015. The restaurant was quite busy and the owner visibly stressed as she was dealing with unforeseen reservations. Yet we got served rather rapidly and the Tunisian food was simply delicious. The owner was quick to recommend dishes without focusing on the most expensive recommendations like some restaurants do. Note that no menu was proposed: all possible selections were shown on boards scattered throughout the restaurant. Dishes mainly consist of "bricks", "oja" and couscous, plus a small selection of desserts. Worthy of note is that the restaurant does not accept credit cards.

Visited Sofra for lunch after reading reviews on tripadvisor. Was not busy at the time, so we got really great service. We had 'bricks' and couscous. We'd never tried neither before but we really liked it, especially the bricks. The portions are large, and definately good value. Service was good and very personal. Our waitress (owner?) recommended what to order and was very nice. She spoke English. She was also nice to the kids, and my daughter loved seeing 3 turtles in the garden. Finally, we loved the decorations. A lot of interesting stuff hanging from the ceiling and walls, both inside and outside.Definately worth it.

We ate couscous there, and it was ok, not that much more to it. If you have a big appetite, this is perfect, there was definitely too much of it for us (and got asked why we didn't eat everything ... was this really necessary...More
