We were craving bibimbap and were thankful to find Somac just 20 minutes away. The atmosphere was very relaxed. Unfortunately, we couldn't sit in a booth since there were only two of us, but we understood. I ordered the tofu stew with seafood and my husband got the dolsot bibimbap. Both dishes were tasty and made with fresh ingredients. The hot stone bowl kept the food very hot, almost too hot, and it took some time to cool down. I would describe this as a review of bad timing. The menu prices were missing and the server was unaware of the new prices. The restaurant was dirty in the afternoon, with floors that hadn't been swept, tables that hadn't been cleared, and sticky tabletops. The lunch special was quick but only average in quality. It seems like it was just a really bad day overall.
We used to visit this restaurant at least once a week, but this time I was very disappointed. They charged $4 for a small container of kimchi, which used to be complimentary and they would even give extra for free. It seems like they are now charging for takeout orders, but the price is too high. We will not be returning to this restaurant again.
I ordered Gungjung Tteobokki for takeout from somac, which is advertised as rice cakes with Bulgogi. However, when I opened my container, I only found two pieces of Bulgogi in the entire dish. The chicken at this restaurant is really delicious! We got takeout for dinner and the meal cost around $20-30 per person. The food and service both received a rating of 4 out of 5, while the atmosphere received a 3. I recommend trying the Spicy Chicken dish.
This Korean fried chicken is the best, no question about it. Everything else we order is always fresh and delicious too. I give it a 5 out of 5 for both the food and service.
