so glad we stopped from southside when I was in slidell to work my truck on. we had lunch, but it was worth it. my wife had the new orleans muffaletta and I had the Irish channel gumbo. the muffaletta was excellent and was really enough that two people could have ordered and shared. I was interested not only to try the Irish channel gumbo, both the seafood gumbo and the chicken sausage gumbo, but the two gumbums were separated by their potato salad. now I have heard of some sharing from louisiana who serve gumbs with kartoffel salad, but I never had it like that. it was amazing! I noticed that the salates that people ordered me could look amazing next time.
The chicken texture was something I’ve never encountered in my 30 years: it was cooked, yet felt both underdone and overcooked at the same time when I bit into it. It had a texture reminiscent of wet rubber. We had planned for a quick evening out, so I decided to eat what I could (we didn’t have the time for me to ask for a new dish or order something else, which was my choice). The service was good, especially since they were busy. They must be doing something right. I would consider giving them another try because I believe in second chances, especially when the service is solid. Maybe it was just an off day for the chef.
On a positive note, I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the camaraderie, and the friendliness of the restaurant. However, I was let down by the service and the portion sizes of my meal. I did notice that there were children present later in the evening, and there appeared to be plenty of parking spaces available. I believe there is also a wheelchair ramp, making the restaurant accessible.
