Looking for somewhere for dinner, tired after a long flight and day at work ,my colleague and I agreed that pub food would be the ticket, and we discovered the Steampacket. OK it was a weeknight in the middle of winter, but we parked right outside! Good atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. We settled for the roast beef with Yorkshire puddings ,both of us having had the real thing living in the UK. BEAUTIFUL............end of story. The chef apologised that the advertised roast veg wasn't all available and we agreed to substitute with seasonal veg - great move - plenty of well-prepared veg which went very well with the meal and a couple of Guinnesses Would certainly revisit and recommend

Wow what a great day. Excellent choice of beers plus my daughters had cocktails which they rated. We had a large group of 20 this can be hard to manage but all went smoothly. The pre/lunch drinks were reasonably priced as was the food. For a pub I really enjoyed my meal I had paella which was the best I have had for many a long day. Nice wine selection as well pleasing to see Rockford wines on the list. The feedback from the family was also very positive. They ran a tab for me which I paid at the end. Before I left they advised that they had inadvertently over charged one bottle of wine, now that's honesty! A very enjoyable experience

We were in Williamstown on a Sunday to enjoy a meal on the beach in the evening and have a look at the local craft market beforehand. Whilst my wife was perusing the local shops I dropped into the Steam Packet Hotel for a beer. They offered a good selection of pint beers for a “happy hour” special of $8. I chose the Pilsener as recommended by the bar attendant. The Steam packet Hotel was built in 1863 and replaced a 1839 original building called the Ship Inn. This hotel is one of the oldest licensed venues in Melbourne. I love the charm of this very old building.

Slightly hard to find, it's in another building with a different name. We arrived about 5:30 and they asked us if we had a reservation - there was NO ONE in the restaurant (just the bar part), so a reservation was hardly needed. They squeezed us in at a table in the doorway. The decor was good, service ok, food ok - although my father in law stated his meal was not fully cooked. I think it could be worth another try, because it is walking distance from my house and other reviewers have enjoyed it - just not right away. There are other places to try first. So, the friendly bartender and the dessert were the best bits. The not great bits were; the waitress walked off mid drink order and didn't come back...weird! The kids meal which was advertised as oven baked schnitzel definitely looked deep fried, along with the bonus hair on it! The veggies that came with the Parma was just bits of capsicum and the salmon dish was over cooked. But the brownie dessert was delicious and the place was packed, so they're obviously doing something right.

The Steampacket hotel restaurant is located a short distance from Nelson place where the majority of eateries are found. I would never have known it was there except that I was looking online for eating options in Williamstown. Glad to have found it. A lovely little hotel with a very stylish dining room. Good varied menu, fast and pleasant service and good quality food. Will return.

Went here for lunch on a sunday. Nice hotel with loads of wood panelling. There was a large TV so you could watch the footy. We just wanted a snacky lunch so we had the Cob loaf, wedges and fries. Very delicious and filled us up nicely. They had a really nice Cider on tap too. We went to this Hotel a few years ago and remembered that it was good there. That's why we went back!

Met with friends here and had a great afternoon/evening. Fantastic beers on tap, nice selection of spirits and a good atmosphere. The food here is also amazing and was very surprising. I'd recommend the ploughmans platter. One of the best value cheese boards I've had. Was absolutely delicious. All the other meals around the table looked fantastic as well. I often stay in Williamstown for business and the Steam Packet has become a bit of a local. The staff are always friendly and helpful, there is a good selection of beers and the food is both reasonably priced and great quality.
