Second chance for first impression. I had originally intended to leave the review of our first experience in tact, and add/amend to it with the second trip for the actual tasting menu experience. However, after all the effort Nancy and chef Carl put forth to make things right, I decided a full rewrite would be in order. For our first trip, my wife and I had made reservations at Stone Soup Cottage for our anniversary. We were greeted by chef Carl himself, and he verified our names/reservations and that we were there to celebrate our anniversary. He apologized profusely because, apparently due to some confusion, someone else was given our table and there was no space left that evening. He offe...

Delightful but once is probably enough.. A special (read pricey special occasion destination for those who enjoy fine dining. I went with my husband to celebrate my birthday and had looked forward to it for months. Everyone should probably experience this once in their lifetime. And once should be enough. An amus bouche plus six courses. Charming, effusive chef and accommodating staff. Seasonal, local ingredients and expert wine pairing. What more could you want? Well, as it turns out, SSC is not without its issues. You are at the mercy of the chef since you have to book reservations so far in advance. One of the staff mentioned that they 're booked through January, 2012. So you literally ha...

Like having dinner in the home of a world class chef. This restaurant is spectacular. In the last year I have had the pleasure of dining at the French Laundry, Charlie Trotter 's, and Gramercy Tavern. Stone Soup is in that league. What made this experience so unique compared to other tasting menus was the intimacy and personal interaction with the chef at every course. Among a group of only 16 other diners this was an intricately staged meal beginning with a lightly applewood smoked amelia island shrimp tart (amuse bouche). Following next was a sweetcorn bisque topped with crisped pancetta. The bisque had a velvet texture and contained still crisp kernel crowns of the corn. We enjoyed the mi...

Absolutely Delish!! I went there on a Monday evening for her cooking class and loved it!!! It was just $50 per person and you have a full 4-course menu with wine pairings. It is best to learn how to cook any dish, but not to raise a finger. You observe how the main chef cooks the dishes before you while he explains everything he does. It's a mom and pop restaurant and they really know their stuff. The wife of the cook is the sommolier and is very knowledgeable of wine while he can answer quite any question you throw on him regarding food, preparation, etc. It is literally an old farmhouse that converts it into a charming holiday home. They only sit around 35 people per night, so reservations...

Flawless. My husband took me here for my birthday and it was divine. We arrived 30 minutes early because we were new to the area and there was several inches of snow. Owner and the hostess welcomed us and let us sit at our table and enjoy a cocktail while the other guests arrived closer to the 6:30 res. This is unlike any restaurant in St. Louis virtually from top to bottom. Intimate atmosphere, extraordinary service, perfectly prepared food. I am not exaggerating when I say that I could not have suggested a single improvement to any of the 6 courses. I would go into what we ate, but the menu changes every 2 weeks. Really Special and we can't wait to go back if we can get a res in the next 3...

Dined in Stone Soup Cottage for the first time last night. This is a culinary experience goal, not a restaurant. The building and the grounds are beautiful. The service is impeccable, welcoming and responsive. The 6-speed price-fixed menu is exquisite. I added the wine pairing and each selection has really improved it, it fits course. From cocktails on the terrace to an amazing scallop amuse and 6 delicious courses (each served by the cook itself), this was an amazing way to spend the evening. Will definitely be back for a special occasion.

Amazing! Food, service, ambience, everything is amazing! It is worth making reservations a few months in advance, enjoying the ride and enjoying the cured culinary experience. I know nothing like it in St. Louis and if it's just a bad imitation of the original! There is a reason why every list in the city has made for one of the top restaurants since its opening. There's no room better!

My experience with Stone Soup Cottage can be best described as: perfectly adequate. The food was moderately tasty and the wine pairings were suitable. Tables were generously spaced allowing each party to enjoy their meal in privacy. Service was prompt and professional. Overall, I felt the substantial cost was not on par with the experience and am lowering my rating by one star.

The restaurant is charming and intimate, located on a scenic little farm overlooking a creek. Tables are spaced appropriately to allow private conversation with your dinner companions, but without feeling isolated. Each course was beautifully plated and served personally by Chef Carl. Every bite was perfect and memorable.
