Having gone there in the past by tram from Heidelberg and walking up the stairs thru the vineyards, then up to the nice walk to the spot overlooking the granite ex-quarry, then coming back for well-earned bier, we knew about this place and suggested it for a group of 8 for a nice relaxed night out. Great choice. The table we got was at the back under the trees (it was 32 degrees C) and we still had a fantastic view of the area to the west of Heidelberg, as far as Mannheim and beyond. On a kinder weather day, or at lunch time with the sun overhead and the umbrellas up, we would have chosen one of the tables right next to a 30 meter drop, and even better views. The food was unpretentious Germa...

A place I loved in my childhood, my youth and now as a tourist destination when I visit from afar. The "Ritter von Strahl" was the first occupant of this mystical fortress. He guarded and defended the town, actually "Wine City" a title it received in the 14th century. For this protection, the farmers and vintners gave one tenth of their harvest to the Ritter. The wine was stored in the Zehntkeller (tenth-cellar) which today serves as a community hall. Over the centuries the "Burg" was destroyed several times. The last kick at the cat was delivered by Napoleon who, standing in the vineyards beside the castle, is to have said: Why would God waste such beauty on the Germans. I guess he underest...

I along with two more friends were here last month on 26th. It was a very nice experience to walk up the hill through the grape garden. And the castle itself is a restaurant. It has a beautiful view from the top. we were here for lunch, and i ordered schweinelendschen with spätzle as recommended by the waitress since i was an amateur with german food. The restuarant was very busy and with a lot of people. It took a while for the waitress to get our food. we don't feel bored to wait as this was a perfect place to chilling after walking up the hill. The food was really delicious, my friends ordered semiknödel and they were very satisfied with the meal. and the prices were not that high. I woul...

I was given the task of planning a meeting with evening events in Schriesheim this past month. We decided to take the group for dinner at the Strahlenburg Castle. What a wonderful evening! The views from atop the hill were breathtaking and the history behind the castle were most interesting. Even without these factors I would highly recommend this for a visit just because of the food. The menu had local and regional specialties and all of the 12 people in our party enjoyed their food and had only words of praise for the food.

If you want to take a rest and you want to leave the crowded and touristic sites in Heidelberg behind you, this is one of the best hidden places to go to. In the middle of wine yards you will find this old castle with a stunning view from its terrace where you can have tasty German food, friendly service and amazing atmosphere, especially during sunset. Go there by car, bike or scooter. Nice starting point for walking in the wine yards.

Beautiful views over the Rhine Valley. Good traditional German cuisine. Wiener Schnitzel was crispy with good frits. The deer was delicious. Our children loved the Spätzle with mushroom sauce ate everything. Although we had four active children, we were treated nicely. Go there in summer and eat on the outdoor terrace

We took our whole family here, 11 people, we sat right away. Service was excellent, service if you need it, and left alone if you don't. This allowed us to visit great time and enjoy great food. One has to stop eating.
