We went to Sugar Freak for their happy hour on 5/25/23 for the first time. The happy hour is truly unbeatable and the food is a amazing! Ambiance 10/10: I love the decor with many traditional pieces that make you feel like you're on an New Orleans bayou from crocodile heads to mirrors and figurines. The owner was very thoughtful with the decor and wanted to give an authentic Louisiana/Creole vibe.The restaurant is huge and has ton of space inside with a lot of outdoor dining as well. The bar is also really large so there's seating there too. Service 10/10: The staff was extremely friendly yet laid back. Excellent service, all of the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming! I would come back for the service alone.Now off to the food! We started with the chicken beignet sliders and they were absolutely delicious! It's a great balance between sweet and savory and the chicken was fried perfectly crispy and juicy.The steak was cooked medium and was a HUGE. Unless you're starved plane to share this with entree. The cauliflower and broccoli were great along with the mashed potatoes with beef gravy. Great food, good service and fun Ambiance. We did get off to a rocky startWith our Drinks taking a while to turn up.I had to get up from my chair to get the servers attention...they were having glitches with the ticket system it seamed.They pulled it together and made up for it with an excellent crawfish special a shrimp Poboy and cornbread. Then the drinks kept coming on the house which certainly made up for the delays in being served our drinks and food. We really enjoyed our selves last night. Thank you! Sugar Freaks!
Went for brunch on a Saturday. The food was so good! And the beignets were delightful! However, the service was terrible. Like laughably terrible. About four different staff members helped us with different things, and their demeanor made them look like they would rather do anything else other than help us. Though none of them were rude, none of them were even a little friendly. Keep that in mind and be patient with it but know that the food is worth it.

Came here for brunch one day, all I can say is YUM! I will definitely be back here when I am craving some homey Southern food.We ordered the sugar freak breakfast and chicken and waffle beignet. Everything was spot on! I wasn't sure what to expect from the waffle beignet but it was delicious. If you have a sweet tooth, this is definitely for you! Staff was friendly, can't wait to come back.
This is the perfect spot for a boozy brunch. I ordered the jambalaya, which was good, with a savory gravy. However, the standout dish was the dark chicken with waffles - one of the best I've ever tasted. The chicken was incredibly tender and crunchy. The bottomless drinks were lacking in taste, but they definitely got me tipsy quickly.
Look forward to coming back to this hidden gem in Astoria! Everything in the menu was appealing! Jacob helped me decide, he was welcoming and had great attention to detail with everyone. My food was delicious and the ribs came right off the bone!Ask for Jacob when you come in!
I really enjoy the food at this restaurant, however, the service leaves much to be desired. The dishes are all amazing, but you may need to actively seek out your server for assistance, even during quieter times.

Food was excellent! Jambalaya flavorful without being too spicy. Hush puppies were great dipping sauce awesome! Atmosphere very laid back and mellow. Really felt as if we were back in New Orleans!Food: 5/5
