Sushi Joa was an amazing food experience. Since we are Japanese, we have been in a number of Japanese restaurants, and this is right at or near the top. It was the 91. My mother's birthday, and she loved it absolutely. We had a birthday cake party, and she told all the guests about it. We rarely come to Mercer Island, but can be more common now. Every adjective for large space is certainly valid here. No negative, except the parking lot is small, so if you come to a busy time, you can not close parking, but the walk is worth it. My husband had the Chirashi Sushi, and we believe it is one of the telling dishes on a menu. He loved it, and it came with a 7train role that was so delicious!
I took my department from 7 for lunch and we sat together a few tables that usually sit 6. We didn't really have enough space to make it comfortable. The Restuarant is small and is better suited for groups of 4 or less. The sushi roles, Bento, Tempura and Teriyaki were very good. The staff was good. Since our table was so small, it would have been nice if the waiting staff were more proactive to remove unnecessary dishes and garbage. But I would go back (from myself or from another person).
I had no idea there was such a great restaurant on Mercer Island, and I lived here for 8 years! The Bento Lunch is delicious and HUGE. And in the end they brought the most juicy orange slices with mango syrup. Jesus! I will definitely return this is my favorite MI place, and is definitely worth a trip to Mercer Island if you are looking for a comfortable and good lunch place.
I've been dining on my own or with my wife. We have always found the food pleasant and service friendly. The owner is usually there to make sure everything goes smoothly. They often have a special one. Try their special roles on the table as an appetizer or part of dinner, and you will not be disappointed.
