Sweet Basil On Moody

Service was the star. Food was awful. Can’t say enough great things about sweet basil in needham. Have been there literally at least 40 times during the past decade. Always a go to. But you can wait an hour or more for a table. So we were very happy to learn a new outpost opened in waltham which took reservations albeit minus the BYOB which is just an added plus to the Needham location. What a bummer. Pretty much the same menu but NOT the same food. The apps were bad. Baked brie was soaked in salad dressing. Arancini were burnt to a crisp. Chicken Parm a big fat piece of undercooked chicken with maybe a tablespoon of sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella. The chicken parm in needham is pounded...

lovely restaurant with great menu and not overly expensive . Han early-ish reservation and for the first half of the meal the noise level was not an issue. As the evening progressed the noise level became very loud and almost impossible to talk across a table for 4. Too bad.....probably for that reason will not retun.

We've been fans of the original Sweet Basil in Needham since it opened, and this was our first experience in their Waltham location. Different environment/vibe, great service, and excellent food with generous portions. And the pesto out of this world good!
