Sweet Lou, That's Who

After working briefly in Westville today, I was heading back to Illinois....starving. I couldn't stomach pizza at Casey's again, or McDonald's etc. I figured I would wait til I got near Gary, but I checked the GPS anyway. Up came Sweet Lou's. I couldn't remember ever seeing it at the location on the GPS, but went anyway, and they were open for carry out! That's a bonus in coronavirus times. The place is friendly and has a strong Chicago suburban vibe. It's like a mini Portillo's in some way (hey, it's one half of a gas station, that's pretty damn cool). The menu was huge, took a few minutes to decide....many good offerings. Eventually I settled in on a cod sandwich fries. Took about 10 minut...

This is in a gas station usually get takeout. The food is good and give you plenty. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I've had the gyro, monte cristo and fried fish dinner and sidewinder fries, fried mushrooms and philly steak. They also have desserts and they look great.

This restaurant is SO good! Went to the gas station that's attached to go to the bathroom one time and Sweet Lou's smelled so good. I've been eating there ever since. They have a lot of options to choose from and everything I've tried has been delicious. Definitely recommend!

I don’t understand why you would send out a burger that was ordered well done as rare. Some people, like myself, cannot eat rare meat, and it’s not your place to decide how we should like our food. You should cook the food as it’s requested. Thank you for ruining my dinner. Réservez une table maintenant

Stopped in when traveling from Chicago to Elkhart, IN for business. It was a quick stop off the interstate and worth the few minute drive. We had sandwiches which were excellent. The hidden gem comment I saw in other reviews was spot on!

This restaurant is always a great spot for food. I'm just disappointed that they no longer make pizzas. Nonetheless, the owners and staff are always friendly and prompt with your orders.

The best Philly cheesesteak in the Midwest! Always fresh! Always great food. Daily specials are also great. You will not be disappointed. Also try the sidewinders!

Their food is delicious. Hamburgers, Philly steaks, poutine Fries, it's all great food. A must try restaurant. Their carry out is very convenient too. Réservez une table maintenant

I really enjoyed this restaurant; the food was excellent. However, when we visited on Friday, it appeared that the establishment had closed down.

Delicious! I can't believe this gem is in a roadside gas station. Perfect Philly and fries!
