It’s unfortunate that several of the Great American Restaurants are going downhill. We had dinner today at the Sweetwater restaurant in the Merrifield area not only was it subpar but after I sent my lobster bisque back because it was tepid-if that- I swallowed something I can only describe as “slimey”. I told our server, Yevi ? , that I wanted it off our tab because of what I swallowed. My husband SIL thought the manager would be stopping by but I knew nobody was coming because it’s not the 1st time this has happened. I got the Louisiana pasta and ozzo rolls! My mom got fish tacos and skinny fries. My Louisiana pasta was excellent I love the creaminess with just the right amount of spice of the sauce, the combination of the sausage, the chicken, and the shrimp was perfect the andouille sausage was particularly new to me and I love the flavor. I love the penne pasta it was perfectly soft and tomatoes top it off. All the meats were cooked well, and the proportions were more than enough they could scale back on a little bit. As always the food was great. However, there was a bit of confusion because when we arrived for our reservation, we waited over 20 minutes to be seated, due to another group still seated at the only place in the restaurant that could accommodate our reservation for 15. The bartender reorganized her section to accommodate us while we waited and brought appetizers (5 stars for her), but it would be best for staff to simply state that they cannot accommodate large reservations at the restaurant when we called to make the reservation. We were thinking about where to eat yesterday and my wife said i didn 't really like Sweetwater last time. And i said, and she agreed, that the food was fine, but the service sucked. Every time we 've been here we somehow wind up in a shift change. Sometimes it happens before the entrée comes out, sometimes it 's in the middle of the entrée. Either the entrée takes extra time or we never get a water refill and my bourbon glass gets dusty or we sit for 20 minutes waiting for the check which kills the mood if we wanted desert. Sweetwater Tavern screwed up my last two to-go orders. I ordered their Monterey Salad with Spiced Pecans, and it was literally missing the spiced pecans, avocado, tortilla strips, AND dried cranberries. How is that possible? This time, I ordered the crab cake platter, and they forgot the remoulade sauce. Also, the crab doesn't resemble cakes at all, and looks like lumps were just thrown in the to-go container. They would never get away with serving this inside the restaurant. Their to-go team has gone downhill. I'll stick to Mike's American for my to-go orders.
I can't rave enough about my fantastic experience here. The rolls were amazing, the lobster bisque was the best I ever had. Loved the fried green tomatoes. My friend got the goat cheese salad, be sure to ask for pine nuts. The crab cakes were perfect. And the bread pudding was incredible! Yes, I'm a little piggy, STOP JUDGING ME!
