"What a gem! Old school German dining in a recently reopened space. Visited on the recommendation of our hotel's concierge. Three tasting menus cover a lot of ground (everything is available a la carte, as well). Vegetable dishes were as good as the duck. Service was well-orchestrated and warm without being obtrusive. Wine list is absolutely stellar!"

The recent refurb has benefited this already excellent restaurant which has been in the same family for 200 years . Excellent service is complimented by good quality food , decor which is traditional and very at atmospheric , I have come when in Dusseldorf and whilst not cheap this is a firm favourite , mainly because of the great ambience and decor but the food is good too . The selection on the menu is limited but there were plenty of choices I liked , the a la carte was limited but avoided a lot of courses if you wanted not to have too much quantity

It's a typical exhibitor trap, You teally don't know why their charge You 60-80e for an average menu, below You can see vegan menu, a shot of salty water, kind of onion soup which turned to be a salty water with a pinch of onions, main dish was the worst, various vegetables put aside on a plate, thats it... Regular dishes like pumkin cream tasted descent, the steaks were overdone, we didn't get chance to try the deserts because of slow service, the main was served after 2 hours...

Visited on our last evening, and what a finale. A very warm welcome on arrival, great service with very attentive waiter, delicious food and wine, and a conscientious team who allowed us to stay way beyond our welcome whilst we polished off the port and cheese! Beautifully decorated with many original features dating back to 1593 (clearly this escaped some of the review authors here), creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Would return in a heartbeat.

The building is from the 1500's the restaurant from the 1800's. Food is very refined and first class. You can pick from different options of pre set menus or order on your own, excellent German food, not the commercial type. Service is excelent. Most make reservation. Suitable for a couple, friends or business. High on the price side but perfectly justified for the quality.
