We generally rave about this pub but our experience on the 29/10 was poor. We ordered our food at 12.45 from a delightful lady at the bar and sat at table 2. We seemed to be waiting for quite a long time having also not been given cutlery and around 1.25pm, my wife caught the chef wandering past our table and asked genially, if we had been forgotten. The chef was a tad direct and said they were busy and we were in the system? A few minutes later cutlery arrived and about 10 minutes later, roughly about an hour after we sat down, the lunch came. We visited this restaurant while staying in the area and found the food to be delicious. However, the service was lacking. When we arrived, the girl behind the bar gave us our table number and said she would be over shortly to take our drink order, but we waited for 15 minutes before anyone came to our table. The man we assumed to be the manager did not acknowledge our presence, and the waiting staff appeared unkempt and unfriendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lacking. We would not recommend this place. If the manager reads this review, we suggest investing in staff training and implementing a dress code for the employees.
We arrived at the restaurant during a busy Sunday lunch rush, with the place packed full of people, so the service was a bit slow. However, the food was definitely worth the wait. My steak and ale pie was huge, juicy, and cooked perfectly. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meat and vegetarian roasts as well. The only suggestion would be to provide deeper gravy boats. We were too stuffed to even consider dessert. Overall, a big thumbs up to the restaurant for serving the local community in such a fantastic way.
We made a reservation for Sunday lunch at this restaurant. We ordered the lamb and beef dishes, both of which came with a variety of vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. We chose the regular size portion, which was quite generous. For dessert, we had a crumble with custard and a meringue with toffee ice cream. You can also select from the regular menu. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We highly recommend making a reservation in advance!

This is one of the few eateries in Peterborough that provides a proper home-cooked Sunday roast for a reasonable price. There were 5 choices of roast dinner, including a vegetarian choice. My roast shredded pork was tasty and fulsome, with a plate of al dente veg. Unfortunately the cracking was so hard I couldn't bite it, the soft roast potatoes could have done with another half-an-hour in the oven instead. A fab, fab place to eat Sunday dinner.
Great food and pleasant atmosphere. One of the best dishes that I have enjoyed during my stay in the UK. Our friends raved on their dishes. We were very full at the end. Excellent service. Our table was ready when we arrived and food served shortly after we ordered. We'll be back
We had a celebration meal in the function room. The room was lovely and the staff were excellent. The food was delicious and generous portions would definitely recommend.
Been here twice now food hot and really nice staff all attentive don't bother going anywhere else now sometimes too busy to get a table so just book a different day

Excellent Sunday dinner, several meat choices plus vegetarian option, very reasonable price and the smaller portion option is an excellent idea. Good service
Visited again with two friends food was delicious and quick,service was ace by Michelle as usual. Large portions piping hot. Well worth a visit.
