The Am-thai Williamsburg

Overpriced with poor service and mediocre flavors. We waited 5 minutes just to be seated and another 20 minutes before our order was taken. Our water was never refilled, and there was a 25-minute gap between our appetizer and main course. The restaurant is small and not busy at all, so it felt like they forgot about us. Portions were tiny, and the taste was average at best—similar to a college diner’s Asian food night. Seasoning was lacking, and the stir-fried dishes tasted as if they’d been slow-cooked. I tried the lunch special with shrimp drunken noodles and it was excellent. The spice level was just right, and it came with four large, perfectly cooked and seasoned shrimp. However, I do think the price is a bit steep—$24 for a side salad, soft drink, and a lunch entree doesn’t quite feel like a typical lunch special. Overall, food, service, and atmosphere all deserve a 5.
