I wish we had read the reviews on this place before booking ! I was convinced that we were being filmed for one of those ever thing going wrong tv programmers. Check in went ok. Wasn’t able to call us a taxi to the races , but hey we can do that Returned from a great day out as a group of 8 for diner and drinks 6/8 were also booked in for overnight stay. Owners arguing aggressively in the bar with customers , slightly awkward. Ordered a round of drinks, and not able to have a tab ! Moved 2 stools to all sit together in the bar and told we couldn’t do that as was sitting in a fire escape route...not usually a problem when they have a tribute act on, but hey, told off and put back. Asked when...
Firstly I would like to say that the rooms were amazing. They were clean, well stocked and you can tell that they are cleaned with great attention to detail. The staff that were cleaning the rooms were very polite and helpful when i needed an iron and ironing board. The grounds were clean and tidy, the plants were all well watered and at first glance the place gives off a feeling of a good countryside vibe as my wife would say. However.. The place is let down by the other half of the business. When the bar eventually opened at 6pm we were greeted not by happy smiling staff but by a busy, obviously understaffed gentleman who didn 't seem too happy to be serving customers. The Bell Inn is an attractive building suited in a convenient location close to Newmarket. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed our meal and the staff were friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the rest of our stay was very disappointing; There was no breakfast available this was not made clear to us when booking. There was no check out we were told to leave our key in the door of our room. The room was not cleaned to an acceptable standard and the toilet was soiled under the seat. There was no hot water and we therefore had to have cold showers in the morning, For the price of £140 this was not good value.
My partner and I booked a room at the Bell Inn for an overnight stay while we were in town for a race meeting at Newmarket. We were given room 1 on the first floor, which was incredibly spacious, clean, and modern. There was plenty of storage space for longer stays and the furnishings were high quality. The bathroom was great, with a bath and shower. Our only issue was figuring out how to use the remote to lower the TV back into the bed frame at the foot of the bed. The evening meal and breakfast were also delicious. We definitely plan on staying here again in the future. Réservez une table maintenant
The service was shocking, not enough staff, They were still cleaning the next room at 13.15pm it was noisy. When we finally got to order, we had to wait 45 mins, for two meals which were expensive and tasteless, not worth the cost. Another so swamped in gravy, it was impossible to eat without a spoon! Plus one dish was supposed to have cashew nuts and did not have one! I would not recommend eating there, Sunday lunch must be a nightmare, they cannot cope with 3 tables with two persons on each, let alone several tables with families.
I arrived at the agreed time (ie between 5 and 6PM), but the pub was closed. No one answered the door, nor the phone. I eventually spoke with a fellow guest who suggested I try the estate agent next door! But that was closed too. When I eventually checked in I was told that inspite of what it said in the room and on booking.com breakfasts were to being served, not even if pre-arranged. I felt most unwelcome, a hostile atmosphere.
The service is excellent and the food is fantastic. It's a perfect spot to relax or hang out with friends. If you ever find yourself in the area, I highly recommend taking some time for yourself to enjoy the atmosphere and the welcoming staff. Thank you Sheena and David for a wonderful dining experience.
Fantastic Sunday roast and really lovely staff. We came across this place purely by chance but will definitely go back and highly recommend. The food was great and the portions huge! The staff were so friendly too. We came away happy, full and with a smile. Réservez une table maintenant
