They have a buffet/all you can eat area,but I personally find folks sneaking up and down and piling plates sky high with food a bit …..un-necessary .I became strangely drawn to a man who ate 4 sausages then fish then hash browns,then up for rice then chips…. and then had a huge dish of apple crumble and other stuff and continued to sprint up and stack ‘em high when the staff had went out of immediate area! During a lunchtime stop in Arbroath heading north we were looking for a chippie at the harbour. They were all closed (noting this was a Monday in November) and we were pointed to this place, where you can sit in. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't great and at £15 each it wasn't cheap. We do realize costs have gone up especially for food vendors of this type, but costs have also gone up for all of us, and it seemed that all other diners were there for the all-you-can-eat buffet. On the plus side, the service was good and the view from our window seat was of the Signal Tower Museum (which we later visited), pretty cool. Would we return? Maybe for a coffee but that would be all.
I have been a regular for about 20 years. Tonight’s experience may change that. Placed phone order and had to repeat 3 times. Arrived and paid and then waited 10 minutes for food to then discovered it was already bagged and sitting on the countertop. Server said nobody had said I was there. That is probably as the person I paid was chatting to someone else. Fish was not particularly nice and part of the order was missing, despite order being repeated 3 times. Plenty of staff and takeaway very quite. No excuse. I have always promoted the Bell Rock even when ive had the odd average takeaway. Sorry guys but good luck if that’s the best you can do it’s just not good enough.
We had such a great experience at The Bell Rock that we felt compelled to write a review! I wish I could say that everyone's plate was cleaned, but the portion sizes were just too large. Among the ten of us, we all agreed that they served the best fries ever! Everything was incredibly delicious, well, almost everything. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars was because the Sticky Toffee Pudding was disappointingly bland, lacking that wonderful sticky toffee flavor. Everything else was fantastic! We will definitely be returning!

I have visited this restaurant multiple times and the food is consistently excellent. I have never encountered my fish being overly oily, which I despise. The dishes are always cooked well and beautifully presented. The portion sizes are perfect, and I always enjoy a nice cup of tea. The staff are always professional, helpful, and friendly. I feel relaxed and comfortable every time I visit. I will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you, guys!
We ordered a fish platter for two and some soft drinks on a recent visit just before closing time. The platter contained about 10 pieces of deep fried fish in both batter and bread crumbs, some unique masala spiced fish and some local smokies, all served with salad, lemon slices, tartare sauce and chips. There was way too much food for two people and was too much of it was deep fried.
I had scampi was fine …waitresses seemed a bit run off there feet no time to chat or anything…hubby had roast beef as It was Sunday shame they gave him some end bits as it wd have been lovely otherwise and a wee yorkie wouldn’t go amiss also better gravy .. even bistro ready made wd be better than what there serving was ok wouldn’t be rushing back
I have special dietary requirements as I can only eat very small amounts. I normally choose from the Kids Menu. This evening I had the best Kids meal ever beautifully cooked fish pieces with chips and mushy peas. The fish was so delicious very fresh and flaking apart and the crispy batter was out of this world.

Fantastic sit down chip shop restaurant with a full menu. Food quality is excellent and service is fairly quick. Cost is very reasonable. It’s not fine dining but it’s best in class for what it is.
I haven't visited this restaurant in years, and I will never return. Everything about this takeaway is terrible.
