Mains; Rump of Lamb, dauphine potatoes, mushrooms, parsnip, kale cabbage, port jus. Steak and Ale pie, chips, carrots, brocoli and courgettes. Dessert; Chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce and strawberry ice-cream. Raspberry cheese cake, honey comb and raspberry sorbet. I was advised that this was a great place to go for Sunday Lunch over four years ago. I only managed to visit this weekend and what a great experience it was. There was l lovely log fire as we entered the pub, we decided to pass on starters and go straight to main courses, I went for the roast beef and was surprised to be asked how I liked my beef cooked, I said rare if possible and one of our friends asked for hers medium. The other two went for the roast leg of lamb. When it came, it was beautiful rare sirloin of beef, our friend had perfect medium beef and the others had ample portions of tender lamb. Had a lovely meal here, staff were excellent and could not do enough to help and were clearly very busy, but so polite. The dishes we had were excellent although disappointed in the Pastrami starter which just had some very limp rocket and the pastrami was tasteless. However all other dishes were excellent. There was however a very obnoxious old man with a walking stick in who was clearly a regular and just vulgar how he spoke to the staff and the demands he was making. He was clearly well known and clearly thinks he can act how he wants.
From booking a table in advance to the meal itself nothing could be better. At all times we felt welcomed. The Sunday roast beef meal was perfection. Absolutely nothing left on the plate, vegetables perfectly cooked, the traditional yorkshire pudding. Service was spot on. Only problem is it is 150 miles from home

10/10 on food and service, lovely charming pub and the food is top quality we ordered two steaks and they were both cooked to perfection and very large portions will definitely make this our local now
Had a lovely few drinks and a meal here. The specials were amazing as was the service! Highly recommended and will definitely be back next time in the area.
We enjoyed a lovely meal with our friends. My Pork Loin was excellent and my wife's Steak Pie was a truly good pie. The puds were pretty good as well!
Great atmosphere, very friendly efficient staff, cozy warm atmosphere, fantastic food, traditional country pub/ restaurant. Highly recommended.
