The Boss Bakery & Restaurant

Despite the changing landscape of Chinatown, many of the old guard restaurants are still around and Boss Bakery and Restaurant is one of them. I was seated immediately by the very friendly manager who brought me tea and took an interest in my day to that point! This is a good sized room with nice booths many of which were occupied with folks enjoying their morning repast. I had Chinese Ham Congee which is such an amazing way to start the day! Salty bits of ham and just a trace of sesame oil and why don't I eat this at home more often I have made it with brown rice with decent results)? I was wandering around Chinatown looking for somewhere for breakfast during the third day of my trip to Vancouver and I came across this place. Never judge a book by the cover. This may sound strange but this was the place where I fell in love with the Chinese style beef spaghetti with tomato sauce LOL. It's so good come on! When you need lunch on the go it's perfect and comforting, as well as a lemon ice tea to wash it down ahhh...

The grilled cheese is always a favourite here, and a must-have for every time I am in Vancouver. They bake the bread in house and toast it with a generous amount of butter until it is nice and crispy, allowing the cheese inside to melt. Delicious!

The Boss has been around for a very long time now, at least 20 years! I remember coming here as a child. It has your typical Chinese comfort food. There is also a bakery in the front.
