Despite having pre-booked and paid for our meal, we waited a full hour before our starters were served, and we had to inquire about them. The next two courses arrived more quickly, and I have to say, the food was quite good. I couldn't help but notice that the table next to us, who arrived after us, had already made significant progress on their main course by the time we received our starters. After finishing our meal, I tried to order a cocktail, only to be told that they were out of one of the ingredients. This made me wonder why it was still on the menu. I had to choose a different drink instead. The staff were lovely, and it wasn’t their fault that the restaurant seemed understaffed....
Very poor all round. We were given the menus at 7.15pm and the waitress told us that 7 dishes had ran out. We asked what the “Braw Deal” options were and this was apparently off too, despite being a Friday. Having picked from the limited menu we were told that they’d run out of more items and had to choose again. We had some basic starters which were fine, but then waited an hour for the mains. We had to leave for arranged transport at 9, so agreed to pay the bill when the food arrived to save time. The fish pie was cold, the steak was under cooked and tough (didn’t get eaten) and the chips were hard. The sauces for the burgers never arrived, so had to leave the table to find the waitress to...
I was very disappointed with my experience. The soup was watery and served lukewarm, while the bread was dry and came without butter. I ordered the vegetarian Butternut Squash and feta Wellington, which was slightly burnt around the edges. There was no trace of feta, and I was surprised to find haggis hidden beneath the tough pastry—this wasn’t mentioned on the menu, and I certainly wouldn’t have ordered it if I’d known. The small portion of vegetables was acceptable, but overall the vegetarian options were limited to just two choices. As for the service, I dined in.
We visited The Bothy last month as a group of 21 people, mostly students. Had made a reservation well in advance. They'd set a whole top floor aside for us, tables and everything well arranged before we got there. We were served by Chris that night; she and the folks with her looked after the needs of the group really well. Turns out, our travel agent had missed out some dietary restrictions. Folks at the restaurant were very accommodating of this. That first soup never had something so amazing. Everybody enjoyed their food! Great service. 10/10 would go again. It is a new restaurant just opened a few months ago. It is very charming. The gas flames outside are very inviting on a cold night. Inside is warm and accepting. The food is good. The humus starter is very tasty and Sonia the duck pate. The food was very good. And the poached pear for dessert was exceptional. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Food: 4
Absolutely beautiful food. An amazing find after not being able to get in at our first choice. We had been in the area visiting relatives and called for food before heading back across Scotland. The sticky date pudding was absolutely fantastic, and I really enjoyed the venison main dish. Our server, Vasu, was very attentive and offered excellent local recommendations. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting St. Andrews. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5
