We brought my elderly mother to this restaurant that she remembers as a rough and casual place from years ago when she and my father used to drink there occasionally. She was pleasantly surprised to see that it had been renovated and, despite passing by the beer garden before, had never seen it from inside the restaurant. After the initial shock, she ordered her favorite dish from the menu, the Ale battered Fish and Chips. My partner and I chose the Steak Pie and were impressed by how light and flaky the pastry was when it arrived. The fries were freshly cooked and everything on our plates was delicious. After driving for 8 hours from York, we were relieved to find a place to stop. The restaurant was bustling when we arrived, but Helena welcomed us warmly and efficiently served not only us but the crowded bar as well. I ordered a pint of Belhaven Black, which was a delightful surprise for someone from the south. After enjoying some peanuts and a pleasant chat with Helena, I can confidently say that we will be returning. Great job!
As soon as we entered the restaurant, the staff greeted us warmly. The owner kindly looked after our young child while we dined, allowing us to fully enjoy our meal. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit.
