Came here with friends after seeing a news report on the place, where the reporter touted the fish and chips, and decided to try it. Very disappointing. First, there was no one to seat us when we arrived, because the hostess was in the restroom and had not arranged any backup. After being seated, the service was extremely slow. We watched several couples come in and get their food before our orders were even taken! We had to ask a server to ask our server to come over. When she did, she seemed bored and not very friendly. Our appetizer dishes were not cleared before our entrees arrived. Very poor service. That said, there was one shining bright spot to our visit, which was the tomato bisque...
Visited the British Chip Shop with another couple for Sunday brunch/lunch. Service was great—food was good and for the most part reasonably priced but be careful when you ask for anything that isn’t priced on the menu. “Refill” on $3.50 cup of coffee was another charge of $3.50 without being told in advance—ended up being charged $14 for two cups of coffee with one refill each. Side of onion gravy with fish and chips was $6 when an order of chips with onion gravy and cheddar is only $8. Small container of honey with tea was $1 and another $1 charge for a small container of honey mustard to go with the chicken and chips. Met a friend for lunch hadn't been here for over a year. Ordered fish and chips for old times sake, as my husband was a Scot. Portion size cut by more than half and price the same. We used to be happy to pay $13 when there was enough take home for another meal. Dessert offerings limited to cookies which had been in the refrigerator uncovered for too long. Don't think we will be back. It was such an authentic reliable place for several years
Visited with friends on a recent Saturday in April. We all had the fish and chips which were very delicious and not too greasy. The batter wasn't heavy and the amount of fish was generous. Seating was a bit uncomfortable, with hard wooden chairs. There was only one server but thankfully, the place was not very busy. For dessert had the homemade sticky toffee pudding-to die for!!!! We would definitely return when we are in the area.
