We paid a premium upgrade to a very large room, which was huge, but it was at the front of the building overlooking the main road. The noise of the traffic woke us at about 04.30 and you have little chance of rest thereafter. The bed was comfy, but the furniture and wardrobes are old, dowdy, dark brown lumps from the fifties. Some of the rooms bar areas downstairs on the ground floor are absolutely stunning, but they too are cluttered with cheap tables and bucket chairs circa 1960 1970. The breakfast was good, but the service was slow, with only one person on duty. Housekeeping was hasty. This hotel is crying out to be turned into an up marketplace that people will expect to pay premium rate...
Although there were plenty of staff, too many for the size of the bar, the queues for drinks were so long,(out of bars and along corridor), that we only had one drink in the time we were there. So we sat and chatted for a couple of hours before leaving and moving on to another establishment. None of the staff managed to crack a smile which didn't give a good impression. Service: 3

I've yet to have a bad meal here. Always accomodating and friendly service. Tara, who tends bar and serves the tables is always friendly and efficient. I've ordered from the standard menu and the 2 meals for £25 special Monday to Thursday covers a lot of that menu also and is very good value. Worth a visit if you haven't been.
