My wife, son I booked a table for early evening on the occasion of my birthday. We had a nice table in a quiet part of the restaurant. We enjoy coming here as it is relatively quiet and you can have a proper conversation without having to shout. The carpet and material on the walls helps absorb the noise which is good. The waiters were very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was excellent as always again you can always rely on getting good food here. The taste and flavour was superb as was the presentation. My son remarked that it was the best meal he had ever had there, and we have been coming for many years (not very frequently, but regularly), so it is good that the quality is always improving. There is a lot on the menu that is in season too. We chose the set menu as we feel this represents very good value for money. Overall a lovely evening out.
This is a popular local restaurant but I have never understood its appeal. We live within 3 minutes walk and have tried it on a number of occasions and really want it to be good but we always come away thinking why did we bother...we won 't be visiting again! It was quiet on a Thursday evening and the food was mediocre. We were given ample time to review the menu but it was not until after we had ordered and two had ordered the venison that we were told there was none left..we should have been told at the time the menus were given to us. Soup was fine, my veal was acceptable but nothing special; the strudel was good. Service was perfunctory. They are trying to be upmarket but I would suggest sticking to something plain and simple...one doesn 't want to overstretch the chef. There are far better venues within 5 mins drive in all directions.
We dined at the Alpine restaurant in Bushey on Saturday 7 November. Initiaimpressions were very good, someone took our coats and we were shown to our straight away. A waitress came round with the menus but there was no wine list. 15 mins later she came to take our drinks order and we had to ask for a drinks menu. Anotherv15 mins later, she came to take the order for drinks. The food order was taken by someone else another 10 mins later. When our meal arrived it looked very appetising. Sadly all our dishes were lacking in flavour. There was no seasoning, no fresh parmesan only the ready grated stuff. We were looking forward to dessert but no one came to take our order. We gave up and asked for the bill. It seemed a bit steep for the quality of food. A 12.5% service charge was added to the bill. Not going back in a hurry.
We read in the local paper that the restaurant is due to close so decided to book before it was too late. Have been to the Alpine several times since the 1970's and have never had a bad experience here. Made to feel welcome on arrival, coats hung up and shown to table. Had plenty of time to consider menu and drinks and then ordered. My only complaint was that the food was served too quickly giving it the feel of a fast food establishment. Not enough time between courses. Still I am glad that I went and sad that it is closing.
