The decor is tasteful, and it's quite surprising to find such a well-curated place along the Gloucester Road, where competition is limited. The seating is low and comfortable, and the lighting is just right—not too harsh. The garden area is delightful and well-heated, making it enjoyable year-round. Many of the patrons seem to be students from the nearby University of the West of England (UWE), but the atmosphere isn't heavily skewed towards a student vibe. It’s clear that "The Chimp House" has received a lot of thoughtful attention, all without the inflated prices you might expect. I would definitely recommend a visit.
I had my 50th Birthday Party there on a week day and all my friends and family members came out. We had full access to the whole venue. At the back area we had the food and cake with some tables and at the front area with a few tables, Dj booth and the dance floor. I was able to add my own decorations to theirs, they provided a happy birthday balloon which worked in with my colour theme, it ooked lovely I was very happy. Hire cost very reasonable. Alan's help was amazing throughout. Carl his son managed the bar. 10/10
Situated in a less then desirable area of Gloucester Road, the Chimp House is a fantastic local treasure which clearly many people treasure. You can expect to see many locals and students there which is a good sign that this is a place worth coming back to it certainly is! I've been here a few times and am always impressed with the service and the food. As well as being super friendly and delightful to chat to, the bar staff always compliment your drink, food or conversation with a few extra nibbles on the house.
We had an absolutely fantastic night! The staff, the venue, and the owner were all incredible! The owner helped us set everything up, shared plenty of laughs, and kept the drinks coming all night long. The staff were wonderful, even joining in on the fun, and the venue was just perfect for our celebration. However, don’t let this student focus deter you! The Chimp House is not your typical student hangout. It maintains a clean and welcoming environment that stands out from the rest. The outdoor garden, which is heated during winter, adds to its charm, and the food is quite enjoyable. Consider trying the tapas while enjoying a couple of beers and sinking into one of the cozy sofas; you’ll be glad you gave it a try.
