Taking a break in the Montrose area we popped into The Coffee House for an afternoon cuppie and cake. The place was full, spotless (including the facilities , and clearly popular with the locals always a good sign. It is set in a building of historic origin ... never thought to ask! Apologies for that. All staff were lovely and welcoming service with a smile. The coffee was made to a good strength and the Victoria sponge was beautifully fresh, moist and light (obviously no calories LOL! , delicious, and made by the owner, Fiona. We returned for another visit later that week and had some truly delicious carrot cake. Wow!! Really liked that one... We had such a lovely time there that, on lea...

Having decided to stop for a spot of lunch we were mightily disappointed, we had hardly sat down and the waitress was at the table asking if we were ready, we asked for a few minutes, no sooner had we picked up the menu card she was back, we requested a few more minutes, however that was futile my order a baked potato with prawns, I a chicken mayo sandwich and two teas,, the waitress returned to advise they had no prawnsafter looking at the menu again the waitress advised they had no baked potatoes, she opted just for a tea, this should have been a sign, the chicken mayo sandwich, (and that is all that was on the plate) was dry, and unappealing, no side salad, or crisps that any normal cafe...

So the coffee house shuts at 4 supposedly. But when we walked in at 3.30 it was clear that meant the staff fully intended to be out the door at 4. This is one of my absolute pet hates!!! Most of the restaurant was closed off for cleaning, the woman said you’ll have to sit in this area only and then said actually you can only sit at that table (tiny, stuck in a corner. )Oh and they weren’t doing any food now so just tea and coffee. After this welcome , we decided not to stay. Not sure why you bother to open at all if customers are such an inconvenience. And if you advertise you’re open til 4, you should be open and serving properly til then. Does the owner know you’re shutting everything down...

Egnore the negative reviews I think these people think it’s the Ritz hotel it’s a coffee house and they are the most loveliest staff who will cater to all your needs it can be very busy at times and there is a wait sometimes but if u read the menu at the bottom it does tell you at busy periods you will have to wait just like u would do at a hotel or restaurant and u would wait longer there so if all you people who slate businesses would just take a minute to realise what goes into a business to make it successful and put yourself in there shoes then maybe u wouldn’t be so quick to judge my family have been going for years and have no problems at all Réservez une table maintenant

We came in and sat down waitress served people that came in after us first and asked for a ham and cheese panini to he replied with “no ham” so I just had a cheese panini no side salad or crisps served soup came out before the drinks and hadn’t even had my coffee my coffee came after everyone was finished eating there was also a tostie and sandwich ordered and we had to ask 5 minutes after food had been served for cutlery and a napkin will not be coming back in a rush waitress’s we’re just rude and clearly did not want to be working bread wasn’t even fresh it was pre frozen very disappointing

The Coffee House The Coffee House, is the best in Montrose,, that's where I love to go, They do a fab Roll, with Tuna, it's real tasty that is so. I also have a Latte, an Pancake, an it all goes down a treat, yes to find some where that's like it would be very hard to beat. Helena.
