My Wife and I ate here for a Saturday (Easter evening meal in addition to 2 breakfasts while we stayed for 2 nights. As with the rest of our stay, a real highlight is the friendly and attentive service we experienced. Despite being extremely busy,...all the staff could not do enough and tried to provide a personalised experience catering to different needs, asking how your course was but also sharing their opinions too. Visited this pub via our Chauffeur Service from nearby Studford Lodges. We arrived 7.30pm on a Tuesday and the place was relatively quiet. Despite this it had a nice feel and you didn't feel as if you had to whisper. Very warm and welcoming. Great...service from our waitress. We had a table for 6 in the Orangery. This is not a cheap eat place in the restaurant but the portions were good and the food delicious. We had prawn cocktails, baked brie, and the special beetroot starter. All tasty and plentiful. We came to a family dinner today. We quickly set ourselves and order menus and drinks. One party ordered a Steak Rare, but when it arrived, it was more like medium. None of the staff came and made a check back on our table and we went to the bar to order drinks, the rude male staff behind the bar told us 'go and put yourself and someone will take your order' at this point we ended our drinks a while ago, so it was easier to go to the bar to get them, save wait longer. He remained rude while we ordered drinks and made sarcy comments. The young boy who served us was very polite, unlike the guy on the bar. Friday in the heatwave, and after a few hours exploring the local villages as a candidate for our next move, we closed the day on the Fairfax Arms. So, relaxed it sat ouside in the comfortable chairs when the very hot day developed to a very warm evening. The Clinetele looked like being a combination of locals, going through people, and people on holiday. The groups of people produced a loud murmur of enthusiastic chatter, which contributed only positively to the atmosphere. The food was excellent. Try the Steak Pie! The service was attentive, friendly, relaxed and efficient, and the servers even had time to make friends with our two little dogs. A great way to end a beautiful day.

After we had visited before, we decided to call again in the area at noon. The welcome was slightly delayed and we selected a table. The menu was not extensive, but sufficient choice, including a specific diet. Orders are taken on the table and the serving size and quality of meals delivered excellent value, although wine was slightly expensive. The service was attentive, friendly and pleasant. The restaurant is located in a quiet village and has a parking lot or adjacent street parking. We would definitely visit again when the opportunity arises.
We called here for a drink today. They forgot our drinks order, so we had to ask again, and also moved the specials board they pointed us to before we had chance to look at it, so we didn't order food. We asked if it...was all right for us to sit at a laid table near the fire, they said yes, but 15 mins later asked us to move to make way for diners. At this point we left the pub and our unfinished drinks. I would not visit again.
Staying in the area for an early January break we visited the restaurant twice a couple of days apart., once as a group of 4 with 2 dogs then again as a couple still accompanied by our two furry friends....The service and food were excellent we were very impressed that there were adjustments to the menu selection. Staff were really friendly helpful , table service was attentive.
Visited here on Sunday and was very impressed on the whole. A great set up and location and very polite and friendly service too. Being dog friendly was also a huge bonus. Decently priced food that tasted excellent. I had the loin of pork that...came with all the trimmings. The crackling was fantastic. Would highly recommend.

We stayed for two nights and ate lunch and dinner on the first day. The greeting was excellent, the food was very good and tidy Yorkshire portions! The room was perfectly good, immaculate, warm and well equipped. Good value and a great base to... AONB
