With just three people in line ahead of us ....just to place an order ....took 30 mins plus ...the elderly lady who I think is the owner ...perhaps shecould hand this part over to someone who is much quicker and focus on some other part of the operation .... she hand writes the orders twice ...then disappears around to the kitchen to give them the order ....an EXTREMELY SLOW PROCESS!!!!!!! By the time we got our cake and coffee it was close to 50 mins.....as we hadn't had lunch ...I was pleased I hadn't ordered something more complex......there was a table of 6 across from us in the courtyard who were also grumbling about the time it was taking to place their order and length of time for it...
On a bike ride and family drive through the hills we stopped here for a devonshire tea. Priced at around $9 for one scone and a cappucino it is not cheap but well worth the break to enjoy the outdoor area looking over the paddock and river. The scones are delicious, ample cream and terrific jam. Just enough. I have not had a meal there but they seem pretty basic. Devo teas however totally worth it. Would also be terrific spot on a very cold day to enjoy a slab of homemade bread with a warming bowl of soup. Not sure if this was offered however. Lovely grounds. Very steep and sloping driveway/parking and quite difficult to gain access back onto a busy Croyden Road with limited visibility.
This wonderful establishment is consistently good. We have been a number of time over the years and always love it. So peaceful and the outlook from the deck at the back is magnificent. The food is excellent and I absolutely love the salad that goes with the bacon and zucchini, or asparagus and onion slice. Such variety and taste. We think it excellent value for money. And something I love, which doesn't happen very often, is a pot of tea comes with extra hot water - a rarity nowadays. Would highly recommend.
Rosie and her staff provide a wonderful breakfast and lunch experience. The beautiful outlook from the decking enhances a great culinary experience. The Cream Teas are absolutely delightful - fresh homemade scones daily. The standard of coffee is excellent and being a coffee snob, this is really important to me. However; please note that If you want fast food and express service, this place is not for you.Keep up the great work guys Réservez une table maintenant
I love this place for the food and the view and the friendliness of the lady that runs it. It definitely not a commercial café, but a homely place to sit and listen to the birds and watch the stream while enjoying all of the homemade food, including the cakes. Nothing is bought commercially.
