I enjoy the pub more for its character and the history behind it than for the food itself A small creaky old pub perched on the banks of the Thames, The Grapes is one of the oldest pubs in the UK and was frequented by Dickens amongst other celebrities. It is now owned by Sir Ian McKellen. I often make use of the terrace which looks over the Thames The only food I tried is their 5 pound pasta bolognese which I found surprisingly good. The wait for the food was a bit long but it was packed at the time (world cup final) There is a cosy restaurant upstairs that I would advise booking for as the number of tables is very limited. But it looks like a great place to take a date for a...read more

the grapes is a place that has a history related to it and the place has survived world wars! it is quite famous among the natives and they are definitely proud of this place ambiance they do not expect a beautiful atmosphere. this is a casual local pub and does not expect tourist as such. the view of the river Thames is simply stunning. they can take beer in the hand and can chill out in their outdoor area (balcony) for hours we decided to eat for ripening as well as veg pasta and trust us, both dishes were delicious! perfectly cooked and supple in the taste service service was fast and fast you should definitely visit this place if you want to mix with local and chill with a hopeful!

The Grapes, Limehouse – this pub holds a lot of historical moments for the east end of London. Locals proudly tell you that The Grapes survived the London bombings and also, used to be the social place for the famous Charles Dickens. It dates further back than that, The Grapes is at least 500 years old. If I owned such an iconic building, you bet I would be shouting it from the rooftops! Once I get over my height phobia The Grapes is known for the seafood dishes and this has won them many awards. The pub is small, darkish interior and furnishings but when you allow yourself to relax, it feels cozy, casual and has a friendly local atmosphere. The cold winter days made even...read more

We went here for an office lunch as this place is like a 10 minute walk from Canary. This is one of the things that fascinates me of the London signages, you would see quite a few of these pointing to the Historic river pubs'. You may be fooled to think there is a beautiful marina like thing coming up but you are in for a surprise. There are a couple (which does make the signage saying pubs and not not pub correct), and this is one of them Typical pub ware, fish and chips was ok, but then that how difficult is battering something and putting in oil, eh?

here it is like something they need in their lives. amazing, on the river, after the sound of the waters, dream another time in which the man's and the nature are just one thing. a place where you can't escape, lost in a dream. simply perfect place, beer, eat, people. my heart is here.

the grapes in limehouse is a real pub with the current facility built around 1720; a public house has occupied the same location since 1583. next to a historic pub, the grapes also offers an award-winning seafood restaur

large space for a beer and chip, but no fish and braid rights for two reasons charles thickens was a patron and called the pub in our mutual friend it is by sir ian mckellen (gandalph in the heart of the round trilogy)
