I hope we were just unlucky, and I feel sad writing this, but it wasn't the best experience this weekend. We stayed overnight and had the tasting menu. The Creppy family are departed a while now, and the staff such as Henri that stayed on are long gone, they set unbelievably high standards which were always going to be hard to meet. We loved the room we stayed in, but the rest of the experience was a bit awkward. I feel sorry for them as it was super hot and it must be difficult to get staff at the moment, but when you have paid £500 for one night and food inc wine then things can be a bit disappointing. I took my other half here for her 35th birthday and we had a great time! The food was very good and really quite interesting in places. A dish of leeks, nettles, sour cream served with a consommé was delicious and quite unlike anything we had eaten previously (this was a replacement for a tuna dish, as we're not fans of fishy fish). A chickpea mousse and aquafaba meringue amuse bouche was zeitgeisty and tasty. The duck and also venison dishes were memorably great. It wasn't faultless though; a chicken pansotti was served with a good consommé, but also blobs of a chicken pan reduction, which gave a hit of extreme saltiness. 3 borderline 4. We had the 5 course taster menu with paired wines on a Wednesday night. Pleasant but not superb.
