Booked a room here the day before arrival, which to be honest, due to circumstances beyond my control had to cancel early on the day before arrival. Arrived yesterday with my gf, walked into the bar, and ordered 2 drinks whilst saying I had booked a room. But which I cancelled but need the room now please if available. Bar man looked at me blankly and said your the guy who tried to cancel, I sad yes but now we do require the room. Sat down with drinks, to then have a woman (I presume the barman/managers wife) shuffle over to our table. On arrival we went into the bar and introduced ourselves to the landlady. Without a word of greeting she put a key on the bar and said our room number. I asked if the room was upstairs and she just indicated towards the door with her head. The other barmaid said the rooms were outside. My Husband asked if we could book breakfast, she sighed and said 9 o clock, and that was that. The room was great, clean, fresh and great value for money. This restaurant has the rudest landlady I have ever encountered. I have visited three times in the past year, and each time the licensee has been unwelcoming and disrespectful. It seems that unless you are a local resident of Sambourne, you are treated as a second-class citizen. I have traveled all over the world and have never experienced such rude behavior from a landlord. On a positive note, the food at this restaurant is actually very good. Hopefully, a new landlord from the owners, Punch Taverns Ltd, will take over soon. I have spoken to several interested parties and hope that in the near future, this venue will once again be open to all customers without discrimination.
Stayed in the accommodation on site for a night. Accommodation was fine but dated with old mattress that was bumpy. However the landlady as mentioned in other reviews was rude and miserable. We saw another couple leave after she was rude to them and they were there for about 3 mins. No dogs except her dog and dogs she knows. She wouldn’t serve us food and snatched menu out from me , because she said she was full but there were many empty tables. Drinks over priced. Other staff were nice though. In the morning somone else in the accommodations had booked breakfast but there was no one about , at check out we couldn’t find anyone either.

The Green Dragon is the most unwelcoming pub I have ever been to. My wife and I walked in around 2:40 PM, not realizing that the place closed at 2:30 PM. We were greeted with a blunt "What do you want?" and charged £4.60 for a pint. Just five minutes later, we were told they were closing in five minutes, so we had to quickly finish our drinks. We will not be returning anytime soon.
I am new to the area and have visited the Green Dragon several times. I have also taken friends there. The food is exceptional and reasonably priced. Many customers, including myself, adore Cassie the dog. The staff is friendly and efficient. We also enjoy chatting with the lady in charge for her quirky sense of humor and dry wit.
A great big Thankyou too Ann, Pete, and girls for a fabulous Christmas Day lunch at The Green Dragon, it was fabulous so full fit to burst. You all made our day, We were welcomed with Prosecco and canopies and warm greetings throughout the meal. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou Merry Christmas Dragon Team you did us proud xx
We had a lovely meal once again tonight. Food was hot and tasty. Homemade pies are delicious and fish perfectly cooked. Friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back.
